So then why not go play ?
- Redmile247

What happens and he gets a career ending injury? Why risk it? It is not like someone in Europe has never broke a leg or anything. Do You think Canucks are going to pay him 5 mil if he is going to need surgery for a knee on knee?

It seems they need more direction/expertise on the hockey side of things. I think TL is in over his head in these areas.
- VanHockeyGuy

Totally agree. TL may recognize that too. Maybe why the reach out to Krueger. That expertise is sorely needed within Nuck organization.

Only logical reason he would leave his EPL chair. The speculation on coaching seems misplaced. Don't think he would take the Hawks or Pens bench for that matter if they became open.

He coached tournaments because it was temporary and he could take that time away from his duties at Southampton. It doesn't mean he would drop it for the perilous tenure of a HC NHL job. Not where he's at now.

They tanked for Mcdavid too. But lost out. If the players weren't ready okay will give you that. However, if they were they had no desire to improve to bring them on.

Player development isn't linear or one way necessarily. What makes a player ready isn't clear cut. A lot of trial and error may follow. Anyway, all for trying to see what works.

Tank for McDavid? They finished 26th and still have Kessel and Phaneuf on their roster and acquired Olli Jokinen before the wheels fell off. I agree it was the beginning of stripping down, as they started selling at the deadline but Arizona and Buffalo had long prepared to get McDavid.

I know you're of the mindset that kids need to skate at the NHL level to learn to play there, but Detroit lets the kids simmer and Shanahan was definitely trying to replicate them. The immediate impact of Nyquist, Mantha, Tatar, and now the Leaf kids is pretty evident that extra development time won't hurt them

Thank the hockey gods that Toronto lost, that team started to dive on checks and wasn't impressed with Anderson initiating the goalie interference.

You can add the Sens huge win in Boston.

Yup, he's got a good gig now. He's smarter than TL hockey wise, makes sense.

I am not opposed at young players taking a roster spot if they can handle the NHL game. The game is getting younger and faster.

Also, simmering works for teams that don't have roster spots and loaded with high performing vets. But it's not necessarily an NHL grooming way to have to simmer in the AHL.

Edit: I see how AZ and Buff preparedness helped in getting McDavid. It means nothing. All you need is a lotto ticket. The Leafs had that. But Fracken Oil.

You know that whole debate of is it better to finish low and get a high draft pick or make the playoffs but be bundled out in the first round, possibly in a sweep?

I guess it depends on your view of high performing vets. In the same sense we know Goldobin, Virtanen and Boeser could have easily been 3rd or 4th line players, I am positive the Detroit and Leaf players could have gone there right away too. AHL I think does well to prepare you for the right role.

We will see how it plays out though, I know we differ on opinions here but I hope they leave some kids to dominate and gel in Utica while signing the 2017 equivalent to Stephen Weiss, PA Parenteau, Brad Richards to fill the NHL lineup

Well that's not a good start for Cal

Here's hoping Cal can reverse what the Ducks did last game
