Personally, I never understood the love people had for him, to me he was a marginal NHL defenseman of which we had in abundance and were it not for the fact that he had that clause in his contract, he'd be in the AHL like Virtanen all season. We can handle the loss of Tryamkin, and replace him with a vet on a 1-year contract. 6/7/8 D are a dime a dozen these days. Not to mention we have holes up front that need to be addressed long before we worry about the D which with Hutton and Stecher and Juolevi is fine for a couple of years.

He is 22 and a monster.
Although he played more like a lamb most of the time, he had potential to be a force.
Good skating, i saw him as a stay at home Dman.

I never saw the offensive, puck rushing ability that other's claimed and wished he'd butch it up a bit.

I take your point that he is replaceable right now, but the loss is more about his potential and were he would be in 3-5 years.

I think Pedan benefits the most as a result of this.

Also think Brisebois is more nhl ready than Juolevi.
This fan is not going to worry about it. Just wish Nikki would have taken Edler and Sedin's with him.

I never saw his skating being that much better than anyone else. Other than his size he wasn't that much different from say Sbisa or Guddy. When Biega is outplaying you physically and determination-wise, you have a problem.

He defo seemed to lack motivation/emotion, especially near the end of the season.

I am re instituting the draft no russian policy on this team.
Goldy is getting a pass as this clause will be grandfathered in.

Awesome, they already have Juolevi penciled in on the team next year.

This can't be true! He left because of $ and also because Benning didn't care about him

...as I mentioned earlier, the organization has known that he might bolt to the KHL for a long time. They did everything they could to try and get him to stay. Hated in the locker room, treated with kid gloves by Linden and Benning.

Then maybe they should have shut up about him being part of the future core.

100%...it's really confusing why Linden spoke about him being part of the core despite knowing that he may leave. strange. Perhaps they were trying to persuade him to stay through the media? Not sure on this one.

They were hoping he'd accept the 2 year offer and stay with the canucks.

He might be a monster, but it was a reluctant one, he's miscast as a physical stay-at-home D, he's more of a tweener in my eyes. He skates good for a 6'7" D-man, but he clearly wasn't really into using his size much. Again, he's replaceable, period and his 'potential' was just that, potential. I never saw him being able to be that Pronger/Chara type simply because I didn't see it in his makeup and judging from how fast he bolted home, didn't ever want to be. The loss is noteworthy, but trivial in the grand scheme of things, let's not forget, he was a 3rd round pick overager long-term project that had he not been Russian and in the KHL already, would have been Utica-bound for development (and may never have done so).

interesting that they cite Sbisa as a physical Dman that they figure could fill that needed role for the team.

Perhaps they make a play with Vegas to not draft Sbisa.

i'd be happy with that, knowing that Tryamkin has gone.

WD said the locker room had no issues, he must have lied. Or didn't know.

I liked his reach with the stick.
Agree that he didn't use his size to punish people, but i was hoping that that would come as he became more comfortable and confident.

I never liked the comparisons to Chara/Pronger either.

The loss stings a bit, because he was seen as a bright spot in an otherwise dark couple of years. Agreed it was a longshot to begin with, but he was a good story that has had taken a disappointing turn.
