And you give us Rask or Aho? - DarthKane
Nyet.
Rask is maybe expendable if we can get another C somewhere. But Aho is about as untouchable as a player gets.
If that's what you want for Crow then we'll just look elsewhere. Fleury, Bishop, Miller, Bernier, Mason, Reimer, etc... there's plenty of affordable goaltenders out there that would be adequate in the short term. |

Johansen>Toews. At half the cost. - VopatsRash
For one series.
Without the three Cups, the two Olympic Golds, the WJC championship, the Smythe, the Selkes.
Come back and talk to me when Howdy Doody Johansen has actually accomplished anything beyond getting to the second round. |

The Hawks power play is driving me (frank)ing nuts... perimeter play and it seems stationary. |

Maybe a guy like Lombardi would be a good person to consult with? His trajectory seems a few steps ahead of where Stan find himself now. Cup success, some poor decisions that may have put sentimentality over business acumen - and it cost him his job
Lombardi is a smart hockey guy - and I'm sure his recent firing has him pouring over all of his decisions and learning from what he would do differently now. - Chief4Feathers
Thought crossed my mind. He is also the son in law of . . . Bob Pulford.

Maybe package Panarin and Crow...for a #1 and a good young Dman?
- tompo1015
I realize I'm a few hours late on the comment here, but what GM in his right mind is going to say, "let me take on $12M in salary, give up our first round pick and a young, cost-controlled defenseman" ... ? I would fall out of my chair if that came to fruition.
Don't mean to be seriously negative but I really shake my head that the thought of that would even be passable. |

Johansen>Toews. At half the cost. - VopatsRash
When Johansen wins 3 cups, 2 gold medals, a Conn Smythe, a Selke, and is named a top-100 greatest NHL player for NHL's Centennial anniversary then you can come back.
Actually, just come back when Johansen does only 1 of those things. (HINT: it won't happen) |

PURE hypothetical here John... Panarin for Duchene straight up. Lose a LW, but gain a guy who can actually wheel and win faceoffs. - 93Joe
I'd look hard at it.

Duchene would play center no? He's pretty good at draws. I wouldn't do this if I was the Lanche. |

I thought this was supposed to be a game 4 recap. Even if it's a series recap, failing to mention even the name of the team that just waxed you in four straight is woefully irritating.
Toews may have been hurt, they may have underestimated their opposition, blah, blah, whatever... - Jakes_91
Go back and read the previous three blogs. No sarcasm, you probably missed those. Cuz I did. |

Are you just trying to tread water or compete? And I'm not just saying that to be an arse. I don't know Carolina's timeline. Unless Carolina is ready to compete now, Crawford doesn't make sense for them. May as well get a goalie like Bernier or Mason. |

Carolina would do it.
We have Justin Faulk, Jaccob Slavin, Brett Pesce, Noah Hanifin, Haydn Fleury, Jake Bean, Ryan Murphy, Roland Mckeown... lots and lots of NHL or borderline NHL defensemen in the system right now under the age of 25. Need scoring and goaltending. |

I remember just a short time ago when the Nucks were dying a slow death because of Bobby Lu's crazy contract. Now we have 6 of those that have been argued to be painful (19,88,7,15,72,50) |

You are seriously telling me you would not make that trade, especially if it got rid of one of the worst contracts in the NHL for you. And Toews making the top 100 is a joke. Most people outside Chicago doubt he is in the top 200. |

Don't get me wrong, i love the Toews-Crosby debate that happens all the time, because it talking about 2 guys who have won at every level of hockey they've played at.
Johansen is a really good player, but c'mon............ |

What would the contract have looked like had they waited? What would Panarin's negotiation have looked like had Anisimov not been locked in yet?
I think with some of these apparent overpays, the Hawks are not operating from strength when they happen. The real problem is not having enough in the pipeline at the time of the apparent overpay and being forced to pay up for a glaring need, whether it's a guy willing to play physically like Bickell, someone to center Kane, or the at the time overpay for Crawford because there was no other option at the time. - 333inthe3rd
We're talking about a guy who has been an OK 2nd/3rd line C (or LW, because he couldn't win draws anywhere else) his whole career. Not Crosby.
He's an OK to good player and has had good chemistry with Kane and Panarin. But it's not like no one else could. And he has a couple of noticeable flaws in his game. |

Thing is I don't think the Hawks have the scoring "depth" we could trade from. IOW, if they move Panarin they just lost 70 points. This would be fine, if there were a bunch of other scorers, but the Hawks have exhausted their roster of scorers over the years. You do NOT lose guys like Saad, Brouwer, Sharp, Buff, Ladd, etc...and NOT feel it. |

Goal is playoffs next season, contend the year after.
We're inching closer, and most of our core group will be around 22-25 in two more seasons.
Francis wants to add an impact forward and address the goaltending this season. |

You make a Duchene for Panarin trade fast - and don't look back if you're the Hawks.
Then you move Anisimov and try to address a winger in that deal. |

Toews has not been "Toews" for a while now. He had a flash this season, but he has been battling a back injury all year. Try playing hockey (or anything) through that.
This guy slowly removes all doubt as to his hockey intellect with every post.
