So anybody willing to entertain the idea of taking on 1 bad contract for the season? I have a couple idea's for you! Man i'm a nice guy.
Okay so just to recap. Dave Bolland and Lawson Crouse for a 3rd and 2nd in the next season. Crouse was the 11th overall pick. Dave Bolland has 3 years left on his contract.
Pavel traded to Ari for 16th pick for the 20th. 1 year left on contract.
So onto my options.
Option 1
Marion Gaborik. 4 years left at 4.85. LA 1st and Gaborik for Van's 2nd. A move up of almost 20 spots for Van.
Back to back 20 point injuried riddled seasons for Gaborik.
Option 2
Marian Hossa. 4 Years left at 5.275. Hossa and Chi 1st and 5th for Van's 2nd
Hossa around the 40 point mark the past 2 seasons.

I'd let both of those players sit there another year and try and get picks in a better draft.

Unfortunately these teams aren't going to wait around probably. It is possible to ask for next years pick instead. If it was Chi, I would ask for next seasons. LA well you know you're getting a 10-15 pick most likely this season. It's probably JB's best way to get a pick again in the first round. Trading someone this season doesn't make sense with a stronger draft next season would be the season to trade away players.

Those terms are worth way more than jumping up 20 spots in the draft. IMO. For a team to take on an aging player on a bad contract, it has to be a pretty significant deal.
Example, if LA wants to get rid of Gaborik and his awful contract, it would have to be an LA 1st, LA 3rd + Gaborik to VAN for VAN 3rd + contract

I believe Hossa has a full NMC, he's on the protected list for expansion. Can't see him waiving it for Vancouver. But I like the concept.

I can't disagree with your opinion, I just haven't seen a team do it yet. I saw Ari move up 4 spots for 1 year on Dat's.
Ari got a 11th OA pick for a 2nd and 3rd in different years.
Hossa and Gaborik are still serviceable players.
During googling just realized that Connor Carrick and Zach Hyman were both traded for. I thought they were drafted by Toronto.
Toronto only has 7 drafted players on their team this year. 5 of them were top 10 picks.

Respectfully that's a big NO to more aging veteran contracts.

Hossa does have a NMC. He may waive. Never know. Gaborik is the better trade. Less cap hit. Also helps Van's to get a better player then LA in the draft.

Why does LA want to take money back if they are trying to get rid of it?

Not that it really matters, this team will be awful next season.

Good. Better than bringing in a high dollar option like Boudreau or some guy that can't coach in the PO's.
If he can get this roster to 85 pts next year that will be something.
