So anybody willing to entertain the idea of taking on 1 bad contract for the season? I have a couple idea's for you! Man i'm a nice guy.

Okay so just to recap. Dave Bolland and Lawson Crouse for a 3rd and 2nd in the next season. Crouse was the 11th overall pick. Dave Bolland has 3 years left on his contract.

Pavel traded to Ari for 16th pick for the 20th. 1 year left on contract.

So onto my options.
Option 1
Marion Gaborik. 4 years left at 4.85. LA 1st and Gaborik for Van's 2nd. A move up of almost 20 spots for Van.
Back to back 20 point injuried riddled seasons for Gaborik.

Option 2
Marian Hossa. 4 Years left at 5.275. Hossa and Chi 1st and 5th for Van's 2nd
Hossa around the 40 point mark the past 2 seasons.

Im all for bad contracts with one year remaining maybe two but not with 4 years. We already have two bad contracts we should be trying to move out in sutter and LE.

We need a goalie to back up mark so take a 2nd rounder from dallas from either poop goalie they want to give us.

If we were to take on a contract I would prefer to see someone with 1 or 2 years remaining only.
Maybe Montreal we take on Plekanec and a 2nd in 2018 ( they have 3 that year) 6million, maybe they take back Subban or Pedan, something like that.
Taking on a lengthy term 3+ years just seems like another bad free agent signing

That way the new GM & president can bring in their own head coach.
- Marwood

Yep. Almost like TL and JB are handing in their pink slips by signing another rookie coach with no NHL experience in any capacity. Dumb.

Everyone wants the Canucks to develop young players yet understand we are still going to be bad for the next 2-3 years (when I say bad I mean bottom 5-10 bad) and yet people are still mad that Green is going to be HC as if it actually matters lol
- Codes1087

mind boggling isn't it...Green is known for patience, communication skills and teaching ability. News flash, we will suck for awhile. Isn't this the skill set that we should be seeking out during a rebuild? Added bonus that he knows many of our prospects. It seems many want a quick turnaround and they feel a veteran coach is the way to go.

Another step backwards sure is exciting.

How exactly is Green a step backwards?

Can anyone give me an example when a team "traded down" in the draft and how it played out???
From looking online I cant really find many instances where this happened. I see lots of examples of teams trading down for players, but not for multiple picks.
Trying to understand why so many people are suggesting doing it, when it seems to rarely every happen, let alone work out successfully. In theory it just seems like a HUGE gamble.

AHL coach with no NHL coaching experience. The 2nd one in as many years.

who did Willie develop? Hint, he had an AHL team composed of vets, no high end prospects. It's tough to develop the Subban's and Grenier's of the world.

A coach has to get his start somewhere. I don't see any exciting coaches available with NHL experience? Who would you prefer?
Edit: Krugar may have made sense but he was never an option. Crow, Ruff, Bylmsa

Nailed what?? the fact that Nux fans have the patience of a 4yr old?

Regardless of which coach he hires, the team is gonna suck for the next couple years so how is that Lindens fault??

You could hire, Scotty Bowman, Phil Jackson, and Bobby Knight and they'd still blow.

I think if they were thinking long term, they wouldve just kept Willie for one more year.

Realistically this year's 1st rounder isnt making the club and a case could be made that Dahlen, Boeser, Goldobin might not be on the squad next season (or at least be the benefit of not being there). Given the high praise for the potential top picks of next draft, the following season could have 2017 & 2018 top picks, and some of Dahlen, Boeser, Goldobin, Juolevi plus your usuals. A much better time to bring in a fresh voice and direction.

Oh well, whats done is done. The pressures of the market screaming for a new coach got to someone in the organization

I tihnk most are just nervous about bringing in a coach with no proven track record of developing young guys. Which is valid but at the same time he wasnt exactly put in a position to succeed as this management group have botched everything they have done essentially.

There wasnt many options. I was hoping for Gallant, Krueger but both were a no.

I honestly think crawford would have been good this time around. I think years away from the show would have changed him for the better and he seems to look good in ottawa. He plays an exciting style which also probably would have been good with all the young talent that I hope we accumulate over the next 3 years or so.

At least Willie had some experience as an assistant with Dallas.
I don't have anything really against Travis Green, but I would have preferred we bring in a coach with experience (Todd Reirden would have been my first choice) and have TG as an assistant.

I know we aren't in a win now mode, or shouldn't expect to be. I just think that when it all turns to crap by the end of next season, that JB's head will be on the block. And he has been the best at trading and drafting for the Canucks since Pat Quinn.

To me I was for the guy a few weeks ago but now I think a veteran coach with offensive upside would have been better. Basically every time TL opens his mouth I want to puke so its probably mostly that

For me personally I don't really care about the coaching at this point, as long as the GM starts to rotate a few of the ELC guys in and out of roster, (sending them back and forth). Let's see what these kids have and make them hungry for that nhl paycheck.
I would have no issues if they rotated 2 or 3 players in and out of nhl/ahl roster, provided they get played decent minutes and put in position to succeed ie; 2nd or 3rd line.

The mixed msgs from management are again a concern. If those previous don posts are accurate. Im not a JB fan at all but after the deadline im starting to see TL as the problem not just FA.
