At least Willie had some experience as an assistant with Dallas.
I don't have anything really against Travis Green, but I would have preferred we bring in a coach with experience (Todd Reirden would have been my first choice) and have TG as an assistant.
I know we aren't in a win now mode, or shouldn't expect to be. I just think that when it all turns to crap by the end of next season, that JB's head will be on the block. And he has been the best at trading and drafting for the Canucks since Pat Quinn. - we_are_all_canucks
the difference is the canucks have had to look at green the last 4 years. They know what he brings well.
Its possible someone comes in as an assistant that has lots of experience |

I'm just feeling a little pessimism.
Coaching change is going to have minimal impact. Green is going to feel the pressure to win games and we will see more head scratchers.
and expecting the worst with the lotto. just hoping JB can pick a top line fwd or dman.
Bo isn't going anywhere, we will see him get a bit better and the debate will be whether he is a 1st or 2nd line centre. - hillbillydeluxe

thats fine, I wasnt a Willie fan by any means. I just question his employers, their plan and their motives more than anything - WhiteLie

Like I said initially, it really doesn't matter because this team is going to be dreadful for the next few seasons. I am actually more concerned about rushing prospects. Not happy about Dahlen getting an AHL out-clause, either. - Marwood

That is my main concern. It has already failed this team a couple times, I would much rather over cook them in the AHL/SHL then have them on the team unless 100% ready. |

I am interested to see what Green does with his lineups when he has first choice of players, as opposed to Utica leftovers. It might not end up being the rookie free-for-all that we are worried about |

exactly, it doesn't really matter. I don't personally see an issue with the AHL out-clause. I am sure Benning will try to send Dahlen to the AHL and if he doesn't accept? Well, he can go play in the SEL which would be great for his development as well. Dahlen is a long shot to make the Canucks and I am not convinced playing in Utica with grinders is better for his development than the SEL. |

Name one thing Willie did, besides being forced due to injuries to play them, that actually contributed to the improvement of any of these players. - YeOldTimer

It's ok, we can grab Heiskanen at 33rd have you seen McCag's list he has him going 3rd overall. |

Learning the game over in NA is better then learning how to play over in Europe. |

So you're advocating vociferously to rotate prospects up and down... just so that you can see them play?
Sounds like a good developmental strategy to me, I'm onboard. - Pres.cup
Didn't want to write a novel on all the reasons why but another concern that I have is the team having too many of these young players on the nhl roster instead of in AHL where most of them should be, this way they would have a spot or 2 open for some of these young players that deserve the chance at some nhl time.
I am open to almost any type of strategy that is different from what has been tried with Jake, Hutton etc. Stop gifting players nhl ice time.

He gets love in some drafts and not in others.
Juuso Valimaki is almost forgotten about because he was too old to play on Finland this year at the u18s. 61 points in 60 games this year is pretty good.

Saturday will have a huge impact this year on who goes where. If buffalo, dallas, peg, etc are picking 3rd you can consider Heiskanen or Makar off the board. |

I'd like to see him mirror Filip Forsberg's path and do the AHL thing, but I wont be against the SEL |

agreed...McCag has Patrick going 5th which is a stretch but I wouldn't be surprised if he slips a couple spots. one of the D will go in the top 3 I think. We will get our center no matter where we are picking |

selfishly I'd like that as well but I can understand if he wants to play in Sweden. |
