Rookie HC Green, with rookie assistants Baumgartner, Malholta and then one experienced guy in Jarvis? I get that the rookies all played in the NHL, but that would be a bit much IMO
- WhiteLie

These are all inside the organization guys. So do you think they got someone senior to come over too like they did with Jarvis?

Also what happens to King with Comets? That's another hole to fill with HC. A more important one with all the young players coming in with ELC's now.

after reading the article in the province today glass sounds like a good pick over some others. Point production is good and his dad was 6'5 and huge, brother 6'7.

Several sites have made comparisons to Patrice Bergeron, not a bad type of player to have on our team.

Cooper came on with WD but probably safe since Green isn't a senior guy to demand to make changes. Assistant coaches Doug Lidster and Perry Pearn were also fired with WD. So Green is bringing Baumgartner they say. Jarvis is still here to be the senior guy to them. You think they are they promoting Malhotra? Maybe to do more with what Pearn did?
- Nuck4U

Cooper was Pearn's assistant.

Pearn was the eye in the sky coach that sat in the stands and watched from there. Seemed pretty useless

Malhotra will stay in his current role I'd think. ...faceoff coach, systems integration and player development coach

The Fact that a guy with one of the worst draft records is a "draft specialist" for tsn is very ironic to me. Shocking when posters refer to his opinions as valid

I know the team retained Manny but I think he probably stays on as "development coach" and then let Green find/interview another assistant for the bench. I just can't see them letting 3 of 4 guys have their first games behind an NHL bench all at once

Easy fix... and might be a product of his recent growth spurt. His skillset was already intriguing - I hope Benning has someone interviewing his bro to see when his growth spurts occurred...
- DrChristianTroy

Can be fixed. Yes. How much we'll see if he's got another growth spurt. Good point to check with the family to see if he's got more coming. Lots of angles to this draft with no clear big time talent established player.

Sounds like Cooper takes Pearns spot and they bring in someone to assist him. No more coaching shifts. Wonder if that challenge offside call against Yotes was Pearns undoing?!?

Anyway, Jarvis remains sole senior guy behind the bench. Just hope they have the creativity to bring in a more offensive style as they all have defensive first backgrounds.

I would be fine with him also. I think it was Nighthawk that brought his name up a few months ago. Been tracking him along with my Tri-City trio, ever since. He would be a nice addition.

I go back and forth on what I'd like to see. On one hand, offence is entertaining but on the other I think it is really good to have youth excel at the fundamentals that will be beneficial in the long run.

The examples I can think of are a team like Edmonton, who were all young guns and flashy offence but ended up chasing because they got lost and had low D-zone awareness. Or you look at Tampa & NYR who were strictly coached by Boucher and Torts on defensive structure and positioning which is still evident in the remaining players for Cooper and Vigneault. I get that it could be a better balance of both and players could probably learn better defence later on, but I wonder if trading a boring season or two would be beneficial in the long run

This hire is like watching a high speed police chase and you're just on the edge of your seat waiting for the massive 6 car pile up. We all know what's coming, hopefully there will be less sirens for this crash.

Edit: 2018/19 will see this team bottom out like the Avs this year.

I am very disappointed with this announcement, another knee jerk reaction by Canucks management, not a fan of green or his lacklustre development of crap prospects in the Canucks system. Stupid bloody choice

Vancouver Canucks must be hard up to find a new Head Coach by hiring Travis Green.
Green has never won the Big Game in his entire coaching career where ever he has been.

For some bizarre reason, AHL coaches are glorified far above and beyond their talents. They get NHL contracts finding themselves way over their heads and immediately fall flat on their faces. The AHL is not in the same Galaxy as the NHL.......have you really watched an AHL game lately.......YUK!

Take Dertoit's Jeff Blashill for example. Bashill won a Calder Cup with a very talented team in Grand Rapids. In Detroit he is way over his head. In his first year 2016, he Squeaked into the playoffs, and was embarrassed in the first round. This year 2017, he coached the Red Wings out of the playoffs for the first time in 27 years.
He should have been fired, except he is the GM's lap dog....but make no mistake, he will be fired next season.

The Vancouver Canucks are sadly headed down the same road next year.
Vancouver is a proud and successful organization with a wonderful fan base that deserves MUCH better than Travis Friggin Green..........Please

- GeoffY

Hey I'll agree with some of this, especially the segments about green...

Not supporting the hire, but curious who did you prefer as their realistic option?

We've had nothing but boring for years now. Did that help? Hardest thing to do in the NHL is score. Learn that and everything is doable. Like you said all for the balance. What Nucks have been lacking for years. Now they got some talent coming in that has the potential to help there. Hope that comes with the new coaching too.

I've been looking at other teams that have Senior Advisors to the GM and a lot of them are ex GMs Bowman, Fletcher, Sinden, Torrey, Murray, Clarke, even Nonis in Anaheim, our Senior Advisor to the GM is Stan Smyl, that says loads about the management of this team, they are not in it to win they are in it to sell tickets. Get rid of the Canuck loyalty marketing scheme.
