We've had nothing but boring for years now. Did that help? Hardest thing to do in the NHL is score. Learn that and everything is doable. Like you said all for the balance. What Nucks have been lacking for years. Now they got some talent coming in that has the potential to help there. Hope that comes with the new coaching too. - Nuck4U
Bit of an exaggeration, only 5 years ago were among the top teams in scoring, power play goals, and had multiple players in the top scoring race. Since they traded Kesler they have essentially been missing a whole line in their top 6 as no one had the talent to do so.
I think the important part to get back to the success the Canucks had is to draft players that already possess the offensive instincts and creativity. Like coaches have said about the Sedin's in their prime, they don't tell them what to do on the offensive side of the rink. Thats why I think a defensive minded coach isn't necessarily a bad thing |

I've been looking at other teams that have Senior Advisors to the GM and a lot of them are ex GMs Bowman, Fletcher, Sinden, Torrey, Murray, Clarke, even Nonis in Anaheim, our Senior Advisor to the GM is Stan Smyl, that says loads about the management of this team, they are not in it to win they are in it to sell tickets. Get rid of the Canuck loyalty marketing scheme. - A_SteamingLombardi
Absolutely I've had enough of this group, they make knee jerk reactions to fan and media outbursts as evidence from CDC, HB, CA and 1040.
I hope this group wallows in the depths of the bottom feeders until they are all fired, and the team is sold. What an absolute disappointing announcement,
I'm going to throw my allegiances to another team...Go Seattle Flames Go |

I'd be on board with bringing in a couple advisors and letting a few of the old guard go. |

Winning sells tickets. No greater formula. They could use a senior experienced hockey guy in management. That may still happen. |

I can't throw my allegiance to another team, I'll start paying attention to other sports. This team will wallow in mediocrity for the next decade or until it gets a new owner. |

Yes 5 is right like in the meaning of years. Yes, you can't coach individual offensive creativity of a player or pairing. But coaching can stimulate it at an individual level, by design with team system, and choices in deployment to allow it to flow. So like I said we are getting that offensive talent coming in. Hope we get the coaching to make it flourish. The balance that has been missing. |

I really don't get the outrage.
They fired a coach after a 3 year run that ended in disappointment. a move that many were calling for.
If the team had done nothing I could understand the resentment, but they're making changes.
This team is where many predicted they'd be.
It's not like they're trading their 1st pick to trade for iginla or anything, they're just hiring a coach that they like who has been marinating in the minors under their watch for years.
Save the drama for the draft pick. |

Benning wasn't green when he came in, long time assistant gm and head scout. Just picking decent players with high picks as the twins ride of into the sunset. Big deal.
No reason to freak out.
They could use more.... but I'm happy with shrugging off 2 or 3 more seasons. Could be only one or 2 more at the bottom of we win the lottery next year. |

The only reason they signed Green was because his contract was up and he was going to walk. I think this head office is full of confusion and stuff. |

I am very disappointed with this announcement, another knee jerk reaction by Canucks management, not a fan of green or his lacklustre development of crap prospects in the Canucks system. Stupid bloody choice - Makita

How many games experience did Babcock have when he started coaching in the NHL? |

If the team is going to tank why pay 2 coaches, never mind I just thought of this management group and answered my own question.
Green is a great choice and I hope he gets a 4 year deal and coaches them all, that will take care of the first 4 years then we're only 4 years away, if we win the lottery next year.
Edit: to answer your question Babcock had zero games experience and was hired by a stacked team (compared to this team) and went to game 7 of the finals in his 1st year, you can't compare that to what Green has stumbled his way into. |

So the leafs make the playoffs for the first time in five years and Chris Johnston at sportsnet writes an article about the leafs now being a Stanley cup competitive team.
He even says the window is now open and the leafs must take advantage.
Johnston has always been a poop writer and a leaf propagandist but this is unprecedented even for Toronto media. I hope TO sinks into the lake and takes every media hack with them. |
