That too.

I actually think the 1000 games played will be a huge asset when trying to relate to the young kids. Guy has a lot of experience! Just not behind an NHL bench.

Gallant would have had Subban and Grenier tearing it up on the Canucks by now

Hiring anyone after interviewing at least multiple candidates would have reduced the second guessing is all. I will say though, I have more optimism at this hiring than I did when Willie was brought in (partially because I liked Torts and thought he was prime candidate to shake poop up )
- WhiteLie

I know this will sound hard to believe...but I am actually fairly indifferent to the hiring. I just like to counter what I deem irrational arguments. I am looking forward to some intelligent interviews though. Willie was almost as bad as Benning in front of the camera

That's fair, I am optimistic he will get more out of the kids than Willie did. Neither of us know how it's all going to play out. Should be a fun journey
- CanuckDon

I will agree with you there. . I don't like losing. I sort of want to lose to get Ramus Dahlin or another stud player next season but I hate losing more. I'd rather win.

He also took Portland to a Memorial cup final. WD won the Calder cup. Would you consider WD a great coach to take this team to the next level? JB and TL didn't.
- manvanfan

Never said WD was a great coach but he earned his shot just like Green has. WD's first year getting a pretty questionable roster to produce 101 pts in an NHL season plus make the PO's was pretty impressive. Not saying Green will do the same but man you are drawing way to many conclusions on Green before he even has one NHL game as head coach.

Because I was curious, I made a short list of coaches that coached an AHL before being promoted to their NHL parent club, separated by whether or not they had any NHL experience before.:

Jon Cooper replaced Guy Boucher in TBay (first NHL job)
Glen Gulutzen replaced Crawford in DAL (first NHL job)
Boudreau replaced Hanlon in Wash (first NHL job)
Blashill replaced Babcock in DET (first NHL job)
John Stevens replaced Hitchcock in PHI (first NHL job)
Clouston replaced Hartsberg in OTT (first NHL job)
Sacco replaced Granato in COL (first NHL job)

Bylsma replaced Therrien in PIT (NHL assistant experience)
Sullivan replaced Johnston in PIT (NHL assistant experience)
Yeo replaced Richards in MIN (NHL assistant experience)
Capuano replaced Gordon in NYI (NHL assistant experience)

I do think this bodes well for Green, as many of the coaches have had some successes with the club they were promoted to. I am sure there are others but this was what I could come up with for now

It will go a long ways in the room. Plus unlike Eakins who was basically a useless NHL player Green was productive and has respect that way...it makes a big difference.

I get stuck defending positions I dont feel strongly about either. I am fairly indifferent to a lot the Canucks do, but the discussions are fun

I am with you there. But I'll accept losing for one more year don't know if you heard but there is a Malkin clone in next years draft

I would've liked to know if Adam Oates was interested in returning to coaching. A really good career, apparently well respected during his previous stints as coach and I have enjoyed listening to him talk whenever he is on TV

nice list
times are a changing in the NHL. Young players are becoming increasingly more important in the salary cap era and we are also starting to see a growing youth movement in coaching. The old guard needs to be put out to pasture.

I want 2 more years of loosing. Hughes in 2019 is nearing Mathews/McDavid territory it seems.

Svenchikov or whatever is putting up better numbers than Mathews at the same age in the USHL someone said so between him and Dahlen yes I hope we come dead last next season.

THIS. I'm a big Adam Oates fan, he's a really smart hockey mind. Though I think he is a trainer now? I think he got tired of coaching.

Oates as HC, Bylsma/Gallant as his assistants.

I would say that's a deep coaching staff.

Expensive too, but I'd say it would about equal Babcocks massive contract

It's one way to essentially circumnavigate the cap. Deep pockets have certainly given the leafs a distinct advantage.

Damn I guess I forgot the face guy last night, or how anyone didn't pick up on the fact I was trolling the drama queens with my hysterical posts is beyond me....I really thought the cheering for the Seattle Flames would have been a dead give away....

I think (no sarcasm) that the management team in Vancouver made a safe, easy, let's not try to hard, stupid choice. Green will be a interm coach for the next few years, he is like a sacrificial coach while Vancouver picks 1st overall for the next 4 years. I not anyone more of a fan of his than I was of Willie. I would have preferred Reirdon, Kruger, Gallant, Dineen, Lefty, Dragon, anyone else, but oh well, let's enjoy the 1st OV for awhile...

I'm a little perplexed about the Foote love .... when I've seen him play I thought Luke Schenn was back playing Jr. hockey ...
