Next year is totally stacked. Ive never even heard of this guy. Not to mention all the dmen next year.
We really need to deal assets that wont be a part of this team in the long term. Also, if we can get picks for taking on a couple garbage contracts that will expire in the next season or 2.
I just have zero faith in TL to allow JB to actually do this. - mauryballstein
Matt Read is a player that I would consider. 1 year let at 3.85 ask a 2nd in 18 for a 5th in 18. Turn around and flip him at the TDL for another 2nd in 18. |

I think trade them both now but for picks in 2018. Then use the cap space and roster spots for additional free agents or cap dumps that can moved at the deadline.
I also like the idea of moving sven and granlund as soon as internal talent is ready to take over. - mauryballstein
If you trade them both now for picks in 2018 you could end up with 30 and 31 picks for top 4 D. That's risky AF. Maybe move one D at this draft. Move another at the deadline. If someone is willing to pay a little more for Baert or Granny at the trade deadline say good bye to one of them also. |

I think my (and possibly others) issue with the coaching hire, is not the coach they hired but the process surrounding it:
The firing felt like a reaction to outside forces/media, as reports from Burrows/Hansen post-trade and Horvat all indicated the players all supported and believed in Willie heading into a mean-nothing season.
The replacement search seemed hokey from the beginning by not cleaning out the entire staff. Either fire everyone or just fire Willie and let the replacement decide the fate of the remaining staff...
Reports came out that Green would not coach AHL next year, he'd be NHL or Europe (on top of previous reports that said he would not take an NHL assistant job)
We didnt see any reports of requesting permission to talk to any other experienced coaches that were recently fired
There was also no reports of the Canucks having any interest in any other candidates, including some top assistants (except for the longshot of asking an EPL President to come coach)
I dont hate the hire, it will probably be decent to watch, and I definitely know the Canucks probably do not have the luxury of picking whichever candidate they want given their current situation. It just continues to be a puzzling series of decisions by the management/owner group running the team that is leaving a poor taste in my mouth - WhiteLie
This is basically how the Oilers conducted business until McDavid fell into their laps. |

The twins are 100% not going anywhere, I don't know why that's so hard for some to accept. Chances are Edler will refuse a trade at least until they retire as well. He was pretty clear about not wanting to be traded in his last interview - NorthNuck
I think Edler will play out like Bieksa.
Management will go to him next summer and basically say "We don't have much intent on re-signing you. What teams would you waive your NTC for, let your agent see who will work out an extension and lets see if we can make a deal." |

I see that as much more plausible than moving him for picks at the trade deadline next year. Once the Sedins have retired he will be more open to leaving I suspect. |

Damn I guess I forgot the face guy last night, or how anyone didn't pick up on the fact I was trolling the drama queens with my hysterical posts is beyond me....I really thought the cheering for the Seattle Flames would have been a dead give away....
I think (no sarcasm) that the management team in Vancouver made a safe, easy, let's not try to hard, stupid choice. Green will be a interm coach for the next few years, he is like a sacrificial coach while Vancouver picks 1st overall for the next 4 years. I not anyone more of a fan of his than I was of Willie. I would have preferred Reirdon, Kruger, Gallant, Dineen, Lefty, Dragon, anyone else, but oh well, let's enjoy the 1st OV for awhile... - Makita

I really enjoyed Greens press conference. He sounds confident about what he wants to do, think he'll be good for this team as it stands.
My only problem is that he said Ex-pecially at least 4 times |

He might be the best speaker in the organization already. Benning can barely form a sentence, but boy does he try his best. Linden can make great sentences, but they have no content to them. FA randomly tweets out tone deaf stuff. |

I wouldn't have any issue if they moved those guys for a decent return. Sven is 25 now and depending how the next few years go, he could be "Too old" if the next wave of recruits don't pan out as planned.
I'd be less thrilled about Granlund going if he turns into a full time center that produces similarly to what he does now. |

Solid take, you're a decent poster.
Pick 5 is like pick 15 I a decent draft year, I know everyone is slobbering on Footes jock and taking up some off the higher picks but outside of the top 2 there isn't really any great depth. Half decent top 5 but the drop off is steep.
Trading tanev for a pick between 12 and 20 would be like teasing him for a high second next year, why bother. - Pres.cup

I just made an attempt to listen to it. I skipped and skipped. I think his confidence will be his biggest undoing in the first year. Van should have signed him to a 6 year deal. He's going to need the first 3 to get wet. If he isn't fired by then he may turn into the coach this team needs.
I am disappointed in myself, I am soured about his signing. |

It could also work in our favor with a team coming 12 and you get first overrall. Worth the gamble. |

Sorry for being over dramatic, I can see there are a lot of people here really pumped up that another inexperienced coach was hired, playoffs next season, few lucky bounces, hey you can never know what will happen.
Is that better, |

I know this will sound hard to believe...but I am actually fairly indifferent to the hiring. I just like to counter what I deem irrational arguments. I am looking forward to some intelligent interviews though. Willie was almost as bad as Benning in front of the camera - CanuckDon
See Schrodingers Cat.
I am not upset with the hiring, I am not for the hiring. I need to see it in action before I decide. |

I dont understand how people wouldnt want them moved. They are average NHL players.. With in the next few years you hopefully have JV, brock, lockwood, goldy, dahlen and still have LE and his garbage contract that is totally untradeable.
But hey continue to be a crap hockey team and hold on to palyers until they have zero value. |

Meh. Its not like those guys are 27-28 with hard miles on them as this team is going to sit in the tank for a couple years. They're 24/25 and will probably score 20 each for the next few seasons. That's nothing to sneeze at.
And it isn't like every prospect is going to pan out. Most don't so it doesn't hurt to have perfectly good players around that are this side of 30.
But to trade them for no real reason or useful return isn't helpful. Good teams are good teams because they get good players and keep good players.
If the team is still in the tank in 3-4-5 years sure. But if luck is on the Canucks side and in 2-3 years they're on a real upswing it doesn't make much sense to move them unless they're looking for absurd contracts. Reasonably priced, top 9 utility with offence isn't exactly rare, but it isn't the easiest thing to find either. |
