Im not sure Green will be the "right" guy either if we are talking about making playoffs and improving significantly but I have no doubt that he will be good for teaching our young players what it takes to be a pro.
Comparing him to Eakins makes no sense IMO, Eakins was brought in to take the oilers talented youth to the next level. Green hopefully is being brought in to show the Canucks talentless youth how hard you need to work if you want to be a pro.
I expect boring grinding hockey under green but they will be hard workers and he won't play favorites - belcherbd
I don't see that he has done a ton of that in the minors?
Hard work and work ethic isn't something a coach can teach. Teammates do that by pushing and challenging them. The hardest working players we have are the Sedins then Horvat and Granlund.
I think the Eakins/Green comparison is perfect. I will give him a chance as i do with every new Canuck brought in but money is on him not doing well. I will eat crow if he does well. |

3 of our last 5 1st rounders have been OL (Okung/Carp/Ifedi). Only Ifedi's still with the team & they're moving him to RT (who knows if that'll work). I really hope the Bolles rumour is a smokescreen. - DrChristianTroy

I think vilardi could be the best of the bunch, a lot of offensive upside and actually uses his bodysize well. I'd be stoked on him, not the sexy pick but might be the best long-term - neem55

Ifedi was a tackle in college so it makes sense. - golfingsince
Makes sense, but they weren't thrilled with him last year... He's like James Carpenter deja vu minus the weight issues, so headed in the right direction. |

There are no plug & play LTs available... It'd be such a waste of a pick. Continually forcing an OL pick that doesn't fit the paradigm is as dumb as the Jets continually forcing QB picks... If the Hawks were truly worried about LT they would've signed Clady (who I think is still unemployed?)... As-is I think Fant will make huge strides from year 1 to year 2 and Joeckel might surprise in our system.
Schneider also talks a lot about going too young with the OL last year... So I doubt they fix that issue by plugging in another green LT (even though Bolles is going to be an old-ass rookie) |

When you take a guy who's known for having good feet and move him inside, well your wasting his best attribute.
At least Tunsil was also known to be powerful and mean, but he's still a better fit outside.
I bet Stanley wouldn't have done well inside either. |

Ready is an arbitrary term. Who said and how do you know they aren't able to play in the NHL?
By the way on player options, see the page 5 post, who do you think Green should have in the line up? - Nuck4U
Coaches are paid to know who is nhl ready, your point seems to ignore this task and t responsibility. It isn't at all arbitrary. BAbs has kept kapanen out of the lineup as he was deemed not ready, has inserted other rookies that he And his staff deem ready. That's is part of their job. OTHer lineup options don't justify rushing a young player who is t ready yet, we've already either set JV back or ruined his career by doing this. BEtter to put in journeymen who you are not depending on to be crucial in the future than rush players. Successful teams are patient with their prospects, it really is that simple

What are your parameters for him "doing well"?
I ask because I kinda agree with belcher that the expectations are the difference between Eakins and Green. Oilers were ## years into the rebuild and were expected to get better and failed, Vancouver is likely to be stagnant or worse next season, which is reasonable for the next few seasons |

I think that is all he has done in the minors....He has taken talentless teams for the most part and overachieved. I agree teammates have a role to play in pushing each other but ultimately it falls on the way a coach is able to get through to his players.
Baertschi is probably his biggest accomplishment and he has no super stars to hang his hat on but the Canucks have resisted sending him talent from day one.
I can understand the disappointment in Canucks prospects and I'm not claiming Green will make a huge difference but I think he has done a great job with Gaunce , Subban, Grenier. There really hasn't been much other talent that he has been given. |

On paper Luke Joeckel is a stud, maybe Cable can work some magic there. Okung and Carpenter were busts, they still need to get more depth in the system, even if it's out of the first couple of rounds.
Also wouldn't mind King |

Depends on the system (ours is pretty unconventional)... The Hawks thought they were actually maximizing his attributes by moving Ifedi inside. Who knows at this point... I just don't want another wasted 1st - especially when we're no longer consistently finding mid round value anymore. These past few drafts have been |

GLass is a "sexy pick" as are all kids that have had big draft eligible years. I wouldn't hate liljgren, but i would be shocked if JB didn't pick a center. |

JD is usually all over the place on who is going where, pretty much like all of us here, except a few that are always bang on.
He still likes Patrick 1st though. |

You're talking to a guy who's team trade up to the #3 pick to grab Dion (frank)ing Jordan, and even last year gave up picks to move up and select Leonte Caroo.
I see no reason why a team can't find a LB, CB, DE and S in this draft. 2 of them starters this year, the other two within the next 2 years. |

Yeah, it's possible. You could even add TE to the mix and get there. It's a great year to rebuild a defence, or in Seattle's case just add to it. |

Think Conley falls thanks to his draft week sexual assault investigation? So much value thanks to scandals - I bet the Pats are responsible for all of them. |

The seagulls are declining, offensive line is pathetic. GOod chance rusell gets hurt If it doesn't improve. |

Point exactly. So why all the talk about rushing to the NHL? Yes again, be patient with them. If they can play in the NHL don't stifle them and short leash them. |
