I liked Murray's boldness, but how did he deserve another year?

He took a pile of assets and converted it into very little:

Overpaid for Kane
Overpaid for Lehner
Completely ripped off in the Fasching deal.
Lost on the Kuli/Pysyk deal
Turned: McNabb, Pysyk, Myers, Zadorov into very little return
Had 14 first and second round picks, trade half away, and the one's made, he picked only 1 defenseman.
Took Lemieux over Barbershev when the whole world knew better
Drafter Cornel and Karabacek when defensemen who were projected to be 1st round talent were still left on the board.
Hired (No, excuse me, paid a 3rd rounder for) Disco Dan who ruined Girgensons and stuck Samson on the wing for two straight years.
Could not sell Vesey on Buffalo after paying to talk to him.
Could not land Babcock after throwing the kitchen sink at him.
Signed Moulson to a ridiculous contract when it was pretty clear his best days were behind him.

How's this? Need more reasons?

I tend to agree. But I do think there will be a lot of pressure to find a Defenseman that will help us next year so I dont think its out of the question

There are so many unknowns with a new GM

He may hate alot of the players we already have/Drafted. Murray came in and moved out alot of regiers picks. He may not like Asplud or Baptiste, ect

- MCGUIZZY

I'd hate this. I hated Murray partly for this.

I think new guys gunna try and stockpile, at least in the short term.
- Sabresfan-365

If we stay BPA at 6, and actually draft twice in RD's 2/3, we will have a decent stable for in a few years when guys get expensive

He may have lost us Peterson by trading for Lehner as well. Yet another repercussion of that trade..

maybe, id still try and look at landing two firsts by trading down...maybe trading up but depends.

Might also change what they do with Kane, focus has been trading him for an nhl d-man. could change under new management.

I didn't like it either. Came off as reckless. But understandable if he wanted to construct a team based on his model. Really hope the next guy can work with what we have and just add on because I dont want to start over again.

Looks like some amendments are growing to the list.

And, Oh, yeah, Murray got nothing for any of our pending UFAs at this years trade deadline.

Murray hopefully left us with a great parting gift in Guhle and Antipin.

But for being here 3 and 1/2 years, with all those assets, the pro's list was mighty small

I will give him full credit for getting us Eichel. Its very possible that without some moves that he made( Trading for an injured Kane, Trading hot goalies, Ect.) we would have ended up with Dylan Strome.

I'll give you the goalies, but he could very easily have dumped Stafford for a 3rd at the deadline and Moved Myers for a prospect/pick (or not at all), and not saddled us with Bogosian.

IMO it should have been a 57 for 9 swap. Maybe add a minor piece like Lemieux

When i first saw the Kane trade i nearly exploded. There were just so many pieces. Almost felt like it was way over complicated and could have been simplified. I think the idea of trading for an injured Kane at that time was semi genius. But the amount of players involved made my head spin

It's possible. But we were already in last place when the trade was made. And, if it wasn't made would the result have been any difference? Stafford would have still been traded by the deadline which wasn't far away because he was a UFA, Lemieux was still in juniors, Armia was still in the AHL, pick #25 couldn't help us. The only difference worth noting is that we would have remained with Myers instead of Bogo, and I don't see that having gotten us out of the basement by the end of the season.

i think you have to look at how small the gap was between us getting the 1st/2nd pick and us missing out. He made a lot of little insurance moves at the end.

I firmly believe that if someone offered a nickel for Kuli that he would have taken it. The market wasn't there. We didn't like these guys - I am assuming that other teams watch the games as well.

Mickey G,

No way. Darcy deserves all of the credit for Eichel. He positioned us to have the best chance to land McDavid. I've been saying it for years folks and it really isn't even close.

How would you feel about the Bills drafting Hasaan RedRichard at 10? Good, bad or indifferent?

Yes, the gap was small, and I agree we made a lot of little moves as insurance to secure last place, but in the context of the Buffalo/Winnipeg deal, the only real move that was made which could have had any impact was Myers for Bogo, and I just don't see that as having too much of an impact where it was imperative to us securing last place.

Maybe there was no market on Kuli... but, Franson, Nilsson, Gionta? Not even a 7th rounder for any of them--Nothing? I can't buy that.

I know the oilers offered a 3rd for franson

bruins offered a 5th for kulikov

not sure what the pens offered for either

murray called the oilers back on deadline day for franson, they decided against a move that day

IDK. I think he gave us the best chance to draft 1st over all in 2014... but anything after that was in the hands of Murray. He had the roster power for the 2014-2015 season. He constructed it to lose and made insurance moves leading up to the draft to get us McEichel
