At first I was no fan of the trade and disliked Kane. But, he has grown on me and he is a really good hockey player and one who stands up for his teammates. If we resign him, I'm okay with that.
My big issue was the over-payment, which I felt was pick #25 in the 2015 which they took Roslovic. I think the trade was fair without that pick being added.
However, with Kane's bounce back year, it's clear we got the best player, so the old saying goes, he who gets the best player wins the trade. I don't know if we won the trade, I actually really don't think we did, but it's now closer to even than it was. And, now that Stafford is in Boston and if Armia or Myers may go to Vegas, I think things are getting pushed even more in our favor. - sskkoo1
I have always liked Kane. Tough guy to play against and he can score. Only issue is his off ice stuff but he's a great hockey player. |

So many people forget this part of it. If even a couple of games went the other way we'd be waiting on Dylan Strome right about now (cringing) - Slump Buster
Yep, a lot of different ways things could have gone. If the lottery balls that came up first at the time of the pick were accepted and not put back into the mix, McDavid would be a Sabre. |

I agree. I would rather have him than all the junk we traded away. I honestly hope we re-sign him unless we're getting a 1 or 2 D-Man in return in a trade scenario. |

He may have lost us Peterson by trading for Lehner as well. Yet another repercussion of that trade.. - MCGUIZZY
The new gm might be a blessing in disguise with no allegiance to any player. If anything I would think the firing of GMTM helped the Cal decision |

IDK hard to say. What if the new guy likes Lehner? also i think we may be forced to sign him at this point at least short term. Doubt Peterson would be able to play right away. But yes im hoping whatever love fest was going on with Lehner may be gone and whatever GM comes in would do whatever it takes to get Peterson signed |

I haven't watched ESPN in a long time because it's all becoming debate/hot take shows.
No reporting. Nothing interesting, and nothing I can't see in a tweet. - sbroads24
I stopped watching because of the Tim Tebow and Lebron debacle...

They drew the lottery balls for the 1st pick and it was the Sabres numbers that came up , but then Bettman said no we're not ready to draw it yet, so they did the drawing again and it was then that Edmonton came up. Rightfully, the Sabres won that lottery. I'll try to find a video link. |

Draft Makar - trikkdaniels
I like it. Only thing that gives me pause is that he is playing in the AJHL. An analytics guy posted that his adjusted scoring is slightly better than Fabbros D-year and less than Hanifin and Werenski |

No one forgets. The premise is just flat out wrong IMO.
People act like Winnipeg was the only place Drew Stafford, pending UFA could have gone.
Eichel would be here regardless. Someone also posted numbers that the Sabres actually won more in the final 25 games after the trade, then they did the prev. 25 with Staff and Myers |

This is very true. Although winning any of the last 3 lotteries would have gotten you either a superstar or a stud d. Look at the bright side for you guys .... at least a guy like Eichel was there at #2. That hasn't happened since the Malkin draft. - Matthews_Auston
Laine was pretty darn good this past year as a number 2. |

Wow ... don't remember that. I do remember hearing that until they drew the last set of balls that the Leafs had the best chance of winning. (frank)ing Edmonton. |

Sure, but the point was that we were trying everything to lose (including dumping veteran players for a star who wasn't going to play that year).
I still have nightmares of Bogo going in on a break against the Yotes |

I give Murray credit for remaining a bad team. I just don't think it was any skilled maneuvering on his part. |
