But Laine doesn't get to play with McDavid - sbroads24
I did some research on the Baker chart Homie posted in the last thread about Reinhart being right in the middle of number 2 picks that were forwards from the past 20 drafts, and I broke it down three ways for drafts from 1995-2015.
Top 2 Picks (Forwards Only) - Reinhart is dead in the middle of that group of 15 after two seasons as a pro at 8th in PPG. Malkin leads the way. As for how many of those players drafted played in the NHL the year after their draft compared to waiting a year or more after they were drafted before playing in the NHL, it's a 47%-53% split as 7 played right away while 8 took a year or more to play.
The Top Forward Taken (or 1st forward taken) - Reinhart is 14th out of 21 in that grouping in PPG after two seasons as a pro. Who is above him? Names like Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, Patrick Kane, Stamkos, Kovalchuk, & Tavares. Right next to him are Nash and Lecavalier. 17 of the 21 players that were the first forwards taken played the first year in the NHL. Only 4 did not.
The Top 1-2 Forwards Taken - Reinhart is 20th out of 32 in this group in PPG after two seasons as a pro. 22 of the 32 players played in the first year in the NHL.
Summary: Using the top forward taken as a barometer is not accurate. I say that because Reinhart was never considered to be like any of the names mentioned above in the list of top forwards taken.
Was Reinhart ever considered dynamic as a player before the draft? I believe he was more thought of as a steady, dependable player who would be a consistent point producer but not a point per game player.
In short, it seems like some are trying to make Reinhart into something he was not touted to be at any point due to a combination of his draft position and how the guy taken after him has performed.
The second one is fair regarding Leon, I guess, but as usual with many drafts, it comes down to getting lucky the year you pick highly |

So looks like the Bills are cleaning house after the draft with their scouting department. |

"In Buffalo, there’s a belief that the Bills will be making extensive moves in the front office when the draft concludes. Per a league source, the team’s scouts are bracing for job changes after the draft. As one scout explained it, 'We are all getting fired next week.'" |

Oh, great, I'm sure they're going to make the best possible choices tomorrow at the draft now that they know they're going to be S-canned. |

So I should expect a great draft for the bills this year, because they all know they are getting fired... AWESOME JOB BILLS

That's a little better than I would have figured, but I'd also wager (not trying to make you do work) that most others who are close or below, had a bigger jump from year 1-2.
Some of those guys were 18-19 fresh out of the draft. Reinhart was 20-21 after going back to Juniors.
Example Seguin- .29 PPG rookie, .82 sophomore as a 20 year old.
I think Reinhart is decent. It just bothers me watching how skilled and dynamic Nylander, Dras, Ehlers are (I know, I know) that they weren't valued more. |

Think ESPN is calling all the employees getting laid off, or do they just run it on the sports ticker? Surprised they didn't make a show out of it on prime time. Anything for ratings. ESPN Survivor. |

ESPN is poop. It covers the NFL like a soap opera. They are OBSESSED with trying to promote the NBA as this amazing league and sport that (outside of the last 4 minutes of a game) is boring as poop. NHL doesn't exist in their minds. And they employ individuals who are outspokenly racist against white people but will fire a conservative commentator the second he says something that could be even a tiny bit questionable.
Good riddance to that joke of a network. |

I still have yet to receive the answer to this question: what logical reason is there to promote the NHL when the network doesn't even have a TV contract with them?
That being said, I thought I read they are paying $3.3 billion total annually for their NFL and NBA TV contracts. Sportsnet's NHL deal is worth $5 billion (CAD) in total over 12 years. NBC's is worth $2 billion over 10 years. And both are for exclusive TV rights (whereas the NBA and NFL are not). ESPN treats the NHL like small time because it is small time. |

Now I agree whole-heartedly that from a business standpoint they shouldn't care. But the problem comes from their business model: They bill themselves as the worldwide leader in sports. One would tend to think that includes hockey lol |

I watch ESPN if there is a game I want to watch (baseball, basketball, football, etc.). I rarely watch their other programming except for maybe Mike and Mike occasionally. If I want to watch sports programming, I will tune into the NFL Network, NHL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV, etc. It really has nothing to do with ESPN, but simply they usually aren't talking about the subject I am interested in at the moment.
I did watch Fox Sports 1 for a while, but since they didn't renew Onrait and O'Toole, I find myself giving them the ESPN treatment as well. That's a network that no longer has any idea what it wants to be. |
