if we get top 2, we essentially win the lottery because both of those players are going to be excellent.
We will still get a superb player at 3/4/5. I will be VERY happy with
Vilari/Glass/Middlestadt/Heiskanen
If we get 3/4/5 there will be utter panic on these boards, but people need to just relax and realize there is talent in the top 5. - Codes1087
I don't think there will be panic just a whole lot of disappointment. This team needs a break or two during this rebuild. Just like TO got a break with Matthews. To luck out like that can change the entire future of your franchise. |

disappointment is fair, but how we conduct ourselves on these boards will be not. I guarantee we will see "rigged, Bettman hates us, no luck, etc etc". |

While I agree to let them battle if the Refs are gonna allow Perry to crash the net, Getzloaf to hack and slash and Kesler to sweep McDavids feet out going into the boards it's gonna be an issue. You can still play very tough hockey but it needs to be fair both ways. But agree I don't want to see 16 PP's either. - LordHumungous
How bout the call on Ritchie ...which is iffy at best ...who then gets tackled to the ground and he is the only one who goes ...oilers scored on that pp
I agree the ducks get away with a lot but it's the playoffs ...supposed to be a battle ...

Of course, but that's no different from any day on here. If that behavior is the norm can anyone be shocked if it happens again? Just prepare yourself for it now and it won't be as annoying when it happens.
I would be more worried if people didn't react negatively. That would mean apathy and that would be a shame. |

Just like last year, I would actually prefer we dont get 1st, if only to remove the doubt of who to take (also to keep some good mojo for next year's lottery)

Win at all costs. One of the issues I have had with some canuck players. IMO, that's what cost them the cup in 2010/2011.
After the Rome hit some canuck players got scared and withdrew. hell, even the coach told the players to turn the other cheek. |

We need three drafts with top three picks to get the prospect pool back to respectability. That's potentially 21 players each picked at the top of their rounds. If JB is the wizard that he is supposed to be then that should be more than enough to work with. |

Some will complain about wanting the game called to the letter of the law ... and want all the stick work gone ...best series in a long time was Pitt vs flyers years back ..it was a battle ...and i didn't hear anyone complaining about it |

I hate to say it but it's the dirty plays that start to create rivalries. Pitts/Philly, Det/Col, Mont/Bos, Mont/Que, etc. Even the canucks biggest rivalries were against teams that we had some issues with. The canucks played their best hockey when they were considered dirty.

2 drafts and we should be fine. Our prospect pool is average compared to other teams. A center this year and first line winger or 1D next year. One of Dahlen, Boeser, or Goblin will turn into a solid top 6. Good teams usually have a core of 5 or 6 players. We have Horvat, Tanev and ______?
Potentially:
Demko
Boeser
Dahlen
OJ
Goblin
Granlund
Baertchi
Virtanen
Guadette
Tryamkin
Stecher
2017 first
2018 first
assuming our next two first round picks pan out, we have 4 foundational pieces. Between all of our young players/ prospects, it's a reasonably safe bet that a couple of them will pan out. 2 more drafts and we should be ok. |

We've spent 3 of our last 5 firsts on OL, but yeah, let's make that same mistake again! Make it 4 of 6!
It's not like the entire (frank)ing idea behind Cable's unconventional OL was that we wouldn't have to waste high picks on them or anything... - DrChristianTroy
Also would be okay with CB Kevin King. |

I only said three because that's about all I can stomach of tanking and your chances of getting a generational player increases. Still want to see the canucks really strong up the middle and have a few Dmen that can scare the poop out of the opposition. I don't see that in the list of names above yet.
But you are right, if we get lucky with a few of the above then things might improve quicker than the estimated 6-8 years talked about on here. |

I would expect 2 more top 5 picks from bottom 3 finishes and then your 2019/20 could be a top 10, which has a shot of being a quick impact player as well |

As long as we get a top 8 pick next year I think we will be in good shape. It's an incredibly deep draft. One more year of sucking and then we can chase the playoffs |

No there's no such thing as "luck", just do your homework and make the best pick with the information you have. If you don't have enough, or the right, information then you don't have the right people gathering the info.
As to your comment on strength up the middle, it's the only way to win in my opinion. Teams built with strong wingers but poor centers rarely rarely win. |

Id agree with that, plus trades could happen to move things along, reading Drouin may be available, doesnt sound like montreal is confident in Galchenyuk, even Evander kane is young and tough enough could help push along |

I would say two more after this one but that's just me. Without some really really intelligent people in your scouting department, not the Canucks, you need quantity to get quality. |

My top choice has always been Budda Baker. I want a new slot CB & a guy who can step in for Earl if he misses time. Jabrill Peppers plan B. If we're going outside CB, Conley is my fav, but King would work too (and I hear Conley might fall thanks to the oddly-timed sexual assault accusations that popped up this week). |

Nope... we don't need to acquire anymore more 20 players who are getting paid. Unless its a super cheap acquirement ... |
