Well...I'd say when you decided to pick a foreign player you have to consider that may happen. So, really, is that bad luck? Not in my opinion. There's been similar behavior with several other Russian players, its not something they shouldn't have seen.
I have a feeling he'll come back when he matures in about three years. - LeftCoaster
Not to be insensitive to prove a point but the canucks had bad luck in regards to the LB tragedy. My point being you just never know how it's going to turn out until it does. |

Six years from having a sniff a playoff position IMO. Unless you pick some really talented players for three years in a row. I don't believe Matthews in a generational player but he's damn good, so is Marner and Nylander, add that to a decent group that was already there, which is what we'll have in three years, and who knows. - LeftCoaster
We need more twins in the draft to speed this (frank)er along. Turn three drafts into six just like that.
But I think you can be cup competitive in 6 years if you know what you want and focus on the task. If you can cancel out the non-hockey static then you can be successful quickly. I think that's why TO went with Shanny and Lou, and why Burkie was hired. They needed personalities in there that wouldn't lose focus and fold to outside pressures. |

At first I was a bit shocked by that part, but reasonably if it takes 3 years from now to acquire the youth to be considered ready for progression/rise. Years 4-5 might have you close, so I am guessing youre taking the conservative side that some will develop slower than others. Reasonable I would say, though I am hoping that some luck is on our side and some excellent talent comes along in the next few draft.
Horvat will be 27-28 before seeing playoffs again |

Again, however tragic and extremely unfortunate, that had nothing to do with luck, but rather, a set of poor decisions on his part.
I guess I don't believe in luck; random things happen in life for differing reasons, but there's always a reason. |

I think you need people in charge who are good with the asset management side of things, the more you pick the greater your chances are of finding success! Also, the better your draft position the better your chances are of selecting a top-end player.
Benning needs more picks to make this go quicker, but his carelessness with picks is of a huge concern. |

I agree with the above so therefor we are on the same page.
JB's going to need a hell of a lot of luck to be successful. |
