Right now the Bills are panicking over this news and I'm about to poop my pants envisioning the Bills calling Cleveland to see what it will take to get the #1 overall from them so they can draft Trubisky. FML Gerbe, FML - Hatboro_Swords
I was hoping that was a Smokescreen I want nothing to do with Trubisky lol
QB next year for me

Mary Kay just confirmed it will be Garrett #1. She's in the know for all things Cleveland. I won't need toilet paper after all. |

Even within teams own scouting departments, there is much debate on Nico vs. Nolan. Several teams said easiest call would be picking second.

in any event the choices seem obvious unless one of the top 5 goes off the board.

i doubt any of us would like the return, seems like a similar scenario to yak/edm.
Would you give up Risto for nolan patrick? despite everything ive said about him i wouldnt need more than a second to make that easy no. |
|
|
|
Tippett will hit 3 IMO
liljegren , agreed
Nico or bust - GERBE!!!75PTS
Don't know why but I think Nico has a chance to be a bust. I think Patrick is the safer pick. |

That's the problem isn't it. You need to trade the pick for a good defender that is on a team that doesn't have hopes of competing next year. There aren't a whole lot of teams with that issue. Arizona and Colorado? Maybe Vancouver if they smarten up?
So what would be available from those teams that we would want? Barrie, ehhhh. Tanev, okay, but is he worth a top 6 pick? OEL would cost this first, another one and Reinhart/Nylander to even start talks...so trading the pick sounds sexy until you see what you could get.
IF it could land a Fowler or a Hanifin...all for it, the problem is it won't.
Edit: Someone mentioned last blog that we should trade the pick for Trouba and be done with it. I would agree, I'm just not sure that's even an option without serious addition on our side. |

I'm just wary because of his age. I think we are trading an ELC with a decent future for a defenseman who could be on the downslope. 4.45 million for him is an attractive contract though. |

in this draft, i make that tanev trade all day. Id look into a reinhart/hanifin swap. Hard pass on Fowler.
Trouba's a weird one. The ask last summer was another d-man coming the other way and the Hamonic rumours are all but dead. mccabe+6 for trouba and something might do it but:
a) you're betting big on antipin and Guhle and the idea that you can land yet another d-man at some point over the next 6-12 months.
b) Trouba is due for some kind of raise assuming he doesnt poop the bed next year so you'd have to find a taker for say bogo first before you could really commit to this. |

you're basically betting that a slightly out of prime tanev could give you more value then anyone you take at 6. Its a risk but this would be the draft to do it. |

No way is Tanev worth a top 6 pick. Absolutely no way. |
