Tanev is a top pairing D man on the Canucks...
You would be hard pressed to place Tanev on one of the other 29 current teams where he slots in as top pairing. - Codes1087

Larrson has so much more value than Tanev though it isn't even funny. - Codes1087
it's actually pretty close. Larrson is decent but he doesn't provide much offense and Tanev is better defensively. Larrson definitely has the physical edge. |

I think Tanev is a No 2 on most teams. Even if you think he is a No 3, his value is greater than a smurf plus a late 1st in a weak draft. - CanuckDon
I think Tanev is MAYBE top 4 on the good teams in the league, probably a decent top 4 on middle of the pack teams, and I think Edler is truly a bottom pairing D man on the better half of the teams in the league. |

What good are you as a top pairing D-man if you aren't laying the body or creating offense though? |

I see what you are saying. I have zero attachment to any Canuck player over the age of 25 right now though. As far as I am concerned, get rid of them for whatever you can, and tear this thing down and do it right. If we are going to lose, than so be it, but rebuild if you are going to say you are going to. This hybrid rebuild on the fly bullpoop was the biggest waste of time lol. Tear it down and do it right. Hate to say it, but LL stripped the leafs down and look at them now. 1 year removed of getting 1OA, to making the playoffs. I think this whole thing is more so having a clear direction, sticking with that direction, and not deviating. - Codes1087
agreed. But we need the right return if we move Tanev as he is our greatest trading chip. |

what teams would Tanev not be a top 4 on? |

Larsson is trash.
Tanev is in the top 1% in terms of all D-men in shot suppression
That's all while starting 60% of starts in the defensive zone
And he is a right shot

Previously I would have been ok with moving him for the sake of moving him, focusing on draft picks. But with Tryamkin taking the Russian hiatus, there is less of a logjam so they should hold out until a good offer comes along. Maybe look at FLA for their top pick this year+ if they are keen on getting back to the playoffs |

Or Marc Edouard Vlasic for that matter, some very good dmen get paid well to actually play defense.
Maybe he's Vantel's Asian love-child? |

they aren't that similar. Juolevi's wrist shot is substantially harder than Tanev's slap shot. |

Agreed.
Move players at the TDL or if given a knock your socks off offer.
I remain firmly against a strip it all down Toronto approach.
This will be Sedin's last year.
We don't need to strip it down, the next season we'll suck enough. |

lol...seriously? Every NHL coach who has ever coached works good with youth?
Would you like a jump to conclusions mat as well?
- LordHumungous
How do coaches become coaches? Don't NHL coaches start their careers developing their skills? At some point in time a coach is going to mentor young players. They can't get experience otherwise.
EDIT: the only coach I can think of who walked into a NHL coaching position with no coaching experience at all was Wayne Gretzky. All coaches are good with youth because they are coaches. |

hey Ryan Smyth scored 300+ goals with an absolute muffin for a shot, speed is overrated. |

Tanev is on pace to have 100 less points in the same amount of games as Vlasic has played. |

His PP had stunk, which led to his dismissal from the Canucks. His PP with the Coyotes stunk, and he got fired again. Why would we entertain hiring him when we had a better/more competitive roster in 2011/2012 and it still stunk. - Codes1087
You want a good PP get rid of those two puck hogs |
