If Darling doesn't sign with them by July 1st, could he then be resigned by the Hawks? He is UFA, correct?? |

Stan the man further boxing himself in.
Huge contest going on in Chicago sports management right now -- pissing contest between Ryan Pace and Stan to see how many more dumb moves they can make before their respective bosses/owners say ENOUGH.
Pace was in the lead by coughing up multiple picks to move up ONE SPOT in draft.
Stan counters by gluing his feet to the floor with Corey Crawford who has waved his limited NTC/NMC in Stan's face and given him the middle finger saying he's not leaving.
Stan, head down, looks at his book of contracts to realize there is next to no one left that he can trade without a sweetener because virtually everyone on the club with any sizable salary has a no movement/limited no trade clause.
Stan tells his boss McDonut it's OK, at least he saved some salary cap this way. Stan glances again at his book of contracts and mutters under his breath "oops, I forgot when I gave out those clauses that I was supposed to do that in exchange for salary on each contract. Sure hope Mr. McDonut doesn't catch this."
Stan's next move is to use his Uber app as he heads off to see Ryan Pace in Lake Forest, hoping he can get Pace to re-up Fox's head coaching contract for 5 more years so the press will be off his trail.
How do we get one of these sports management jobs? I mean, other than being born into it. Pretty sure one could use Q's line blender wheel to come up with better moves. I have little hope for the upcoming season. Gonna be lipstick on a pig. I hope they at least put the pig in a nice low-cut dress. |

Was never in the plan anyway to move CC.
Stanbo and Ron Francis must owe each other a lot of favours.
Coach Bill Peeters probably wanted Francis to dump Eddie Lack on Stanbo. - RickJ
Well we know that now which further supports my opinion that "major changes" are not coming. MAYBE Anisimov or Panarin traded but I'm guessing they dump Kruger and that's it. |

Pace traded down 10 spots in round 2 and got a lot of those same round picks back. |

i think they get rid of Cam Ward and run with a Lack-Darling combo wich could be really good - GloveHandStrong
You are making a big assumption - that Darling signs in Carolina.
He will have quite a few teams interested in his services come July 1. All Carolina got was exclusive negotiating rights for a couple months. |

Actually surprised they gave up a third round pick for that. |

Don't sound so disappointed, Ted Dent, Mike Kitchen and Scott Darling. What more do you want for blockbusters? |

Well, Darling was just dealt tonight to Carolina for a 3rd round pick, so it looks like Crow is still #1, unless he gets dealt also |

Sabres did with Vesey, having played zero NHL games. Darling has shown to be a very sound back-up, with potential as a #1 on the right team. |

Yeah, Stan's clearly way over his head. I think he has removed all doubt he's the problem.

Lol all a bunch of hot air and bluster from Bowman and McDonaugh. Like JJ alluded to in his post today....can Stan be impartial or lacking bias when assessing the short and long term value of the big money contracts that he handed out? Does he have the GM negotiation skills and/or cajones to see that this Roster is NOT close to being a real threat at a Stanley Cup next year? Why do I simply expect him to say he explored "hockey trades" but couldn't make a deal that "made sense"?? |

Guess Crawford list of teams he would go to are all teams at the cap and cannot take his salary.
Figured Hawks could not move him. |

If I was Terry Pegula, I would call Scotty and ask him if he was interested in the role of President of Hockey Operation with the Sabres, even for 2-3 years. There isn't a guy in hockey who knows more about the teams and players than he does. And I think he still has a home in Buffalo.
And if that ever happened, there would be some big movement of good hockey people into Buffalo, and some of them from Chicago. - RickJ
We can only hope...
meanwhile its apparent that Crawford has basically told mgt. to take a hike thanks to his limited move clause which Stan handed him...so Darling is out the door... |

Crawford going nowhere. They obviously believe in chasing another cup. The core probably going to stay in tact, unfortunately. Salary dumps going to have to come from elsewhere. ......I'm thinking Panarin, Kruger, Anisimov are all in play....That's about 17 million there. - Hawkytalk
Anisimov has a full NMC next season and partial after that. So he might be hard to move.
Hawks hand out NMC's like candy at Halloween |

Meanwhile he passed on a starting safety for the next 10 years - (the first safety the Bears have had since Mike Brown) And who knows you could have gotten at 36...so two starters for a bust...Bears haven't had a talent evaluator since they got rid of Vanisi...just brutal. |

Who ever doubted Stan was the problem?
Stan becoming GM is like handing a teenager the keys to a corvette, you know he's just doing to crash it.
Stan is stuck with an average Crawford and is unable to make any other significant moves because he hands out NMCs like they are candy. Get ready for a long boring summer and another season of disappointment. |

Stan's reaping what he has sown DK.
Somewhere Crawford is stumbling down some stairs laughing his $6M ass off.
Might never forget 50 turning his back on the play thinking there s/b a whistle, then giving up a goal because he was turned the wrong way. |

I'm expecting some big name player movement in the offseason because of the cap, expansion and teams who were ticked off missing the playoffs or going out early. It just won't be the Blackhawks doing much.

Hey Savvy hope you're well man...
both guys to blame Stan and Q. Think Kitchen going was a good move. I'd like to see Adam Oates as the new PP coach...but I'm sure you've got more ideas on that.
Crawford's been stellar, but the cap is the cap...and the limited mover has tied Stan's hands. How long before he learns not to put those in the contracts.
Meanwhile how much could they have used Kempny? who I thought he should have been playing a lot more. |

Big changes? I'm not so sure. Trading Darling just limited his options. I guess Stan could still trade Crow for another goalie. It will be interesting to see who our back up will be. |
