Well hes not an offensive guy so the stats im looking at are mainly plus minus and the amount of minutes he can play also hes a healthy player. You dont sign him to help on offense. Hes a stay at home type

Yea im kind of in the same boat. Im just trying to figure why exactly people dont like him. I feel like everything gets amplified in the playoffs so maybe its a little of that. Obviously it depends on what his price tag will be but I wouldnt be surprised if hes still a target out of need

He's just the type of D man that's being phased out of today's top 4's.

Good defensive D men that don't put up points are still good at getting the puck out of the zone rather than just keeping it out of the net.

Vlasic, Tanev, Lindholm are the new age "shut down" D men.

Guys like Alzner are better suited for spot duty on 3rd pairings

Exactly, price should be the determining factor, but we do need at least one competent addition and there isn't necessarily a lot to choose from on the UFA market.

That's fair. I'd heard he was slow, but on that Caps team I'm sure a fast player can even look slow. If passing is the other struggle then, ironically, I'd pass as well. Still wonder why I heard he was so good a couple years ago and now there's been such a turn around.

Part of the reason I want is to hire a VP of hockey or whatever is Bc the new GM is gonna have his hands full with just making roster moves

I don't think favorite is the word I'd use, but I'd take a moderate run at Shattenkirk. The only way we'll get the guy/s we need is via trade.

I'm not 100% sold on him, and I think all this stuff coming out now about him is like the stuff we heard about Okposo that never materialized, like he's not a power forward and he can't stay on his skates.
