More tension between the Vets & the kids
I'd rather trade Gorges...
but a buyout is an easy way for both sides to walk away - jdfitz77
It's sports. It shows the kids if you play well, you'll be on the ice. Sends a message to the vets too. No sense in wasting cap next year when we have no issues with money this year. It would be bad asset management to buy him out. |

Or you take the two of them into a room together and tell them to stop acting like children and to put their differences aside for the good of the team.
Both of those guys HATE losing. There's always common ground.
Our depth at D currently isn't good, so unless they make some really major changes, they can't afford to not have Gorges around as at least a depth option at some point. - HonkFortheGoose
If that works great
But I just wonder how long Gorges has that "do what's best for the team" attitude while he's in the press box and Guhle & Antipin are in the lineup
I think it's better to move on from Gorges |

Here's the thing though...he can either keep his yap shut and deal with it, or he can run the risk of not playing at all anymore (in the NHL that is). I honestly don't know that any other team would pick him up if we cut him loose. So either he can sit in the box and hope he gets some games here or there, or he can sit at home on the couch retired.
I get the feeling that he'd much rather have a chance of still playing once in a while.
I could be wrong about him not being picked up elsewhere. But, if he does, that tells me that we woudl have been better off just hanging onto him for the final year of his deal and not have to worry about that 1.3 mil on the cap the next year. |

As much as ppl think Guhle is great already,
He hasn't proven squat
How's it look to other Vets we will want to sign in the future?
It's bad business to bury or bench a Vet when u can easily give him a chance to go play somewhere else
There's enough of a stigma against "Buffalo" already
We don't need to be looking petty, or like we are appeasing our young bratty star player
If we aren't gonna have him in the lineup,
Then we should move on
Again, I'd prefer if it was a trade
But if not, I think a buyout works for both sodes |

I honestly don't know how good Antipin is, but it seems like he's this years Norris trophy winner of the KHL. So, how bad could that be? The KHL has some really good talent as well. - sskkoo1
Guys like Anton Belov, Cam Barker, Kirill Koltsov, Philip Larsen, etc have all won some variety of top Dman award. The KHL seems to have a "top offensive Dman" award as well as an all star team award (golden helmet). |

I actually do t disagree with any of what you're saying...
but idk if it plays out like that?
I just wanna move on from potential issues |

I guess I'd rather have the full stink of the "tank" year gone sooner rather than later. If you buy him out, you're talking about some of that stink lingering longer. |

Love the trade for Buffalo last night. I think they will end up with 2 top 15 picks next year. I don't see either Buffalo or KC making the playoffs next year. - Matthews_Auston

Botterill over Futa just cause you wonder if you hire the latter will he bring his scouting guys from LA...who were not very good. - Sabresfan-365
I didn't know Zito was the GM for Lake Erie. They had a huge turnaround. That's intriguing. |

I was saying more of Buffalo not making the playoffs. That's why I didn't bold KC. |

I'm told Futa interviewed earlier this week with the Sabres... so Futa, Botterill, Guerin all among those already interviewed... |

Just curious -why so much hate on Alzner?
Would he not be the second best d-man on this team if signed? - MCGUIZZY
That's not saying much. And maybe worse, no he wouldn't be. |

capfriendly lists him as ufa. - Sabresfan-365
He was a UFA because he wasn't QO'ed, so then he went to UFA, but he's only 26 and he doesn't have 7 years, so I believe he goes back to RFA.
Edit: CapFriendly has him as an RFA with Arb rights. Look at the Pens page. |

Yeah, he's not very good. And he's slow, something we already have in spades. |

Looking from the outside it seems like Hes a big minute defensive d-man that consistently plays full seasons and typically has a healthy plus minus. Maybe I dont watch enough Capitals games.. |

This is an instance where stats help. Compared to other guys on the Caps he looks really bad. Even Orpik looks favorable next to him. |

I wouldn't go that far, if he only wanted like $2M I'd take him and shove him on the 3rd pair. |

Well hes not an offensive guy so the stats im looking at are mainly plus minus and the amount of minutes he can play also hes a healthy player. You dont sign him to help on offense. Hes a stay at home type |
