They can work on different parts of their games in the CHL. - manvanfan
I agree they can, I just think it is tougher on some players to get in that mentality to do the little things right when the competition is lacks a polished game due to the range of players being 16-20. NCAA/AHL just raises the bar of competition, as they are up against men where the attention to detail is more critical to success than the physical attributes |

Exactly, Nico is all flash and glory. Patrick does the little things to make the players around him better and the team to win. - manvanfan

I suppose the next debate, after when we know where Nucks pick, is not just who that should be. But if the pick is NHL ready? Well more kids are showing they are these days. So it comes to opportunity. Some rosters are stacked and others not so much. |

If top 2, probably will be NHL ready come training camp. if in the 3-5 slot unless they REALLY impress, send them back to junior. No point rushing prospects in right now. |

Yes that's true and why so many more limbo players are seen on rosters instead of leaving them in junior. They test how they will do. Assess team needs and then either keep or send back later in the season. |

I think often enough the kids are skilled enough, but lack physical strength or hockey IQ at NHL speed to make the squad. Sometimes they can pick it up quick or adapt to over compensate where they are deficient, but I think thats also why you see some first round picks play all their junior years and start in the AHL before making the jump.
Ideally if we dont get top 2, I want Mittlestadt or Heineken because the first is spending a year in NCAA which is great, and the other has some pro experience already and can go to AHL if they think highly enough of him to bring him over |

Lets just all forget Nico and Nolan.....the hockey gods have never been on the Canucks side....
For me, off the hop, it has to be Mittelstadt or Cody Glass......but whomever we pick, please, for the love of god, stay away from Rasmussen..... |

Well that's the thing. It's a process of assessment. This whole "rush" thing is unknown. Look at the Leafs, Jets and Flames and AZ. They all played their 2016 draft picks all season. The Nucks and CBJ didn't because had stacked players in those positions. Habs gave a cameo to theirs as another example. So buzz words get lost like when "rush" and need meets opportunity and what is "ready" all gets convoluted. |

boninos emergence in pittsberg shows how on his previous 2 teams coaches can bring you down
or since the trade can make you a better player. |

Yes that's all key. Works for me on other picks. One more day and we know how to narrow the debate. |

holy Christ man we get it, you don't like Willy.
Bonino can't flipping skate. He has always been a beneficiary of his linemates. In PIT he gets to play with Malkin, Kessel, Hornqvist. He played with Higgins in Vancouver for the majority of his time here. You have been beating that Willy drum for soo long now, and even after he is gone, it's all we hear from you. He's gone, move on.

no no, I talk about other stuff.
It was more about bonino of an example how ANY coach can bring you down on make you better. It was a shot at B Boudrou as well. Pat on the back for sullivan and the pens vets |

The safe play would be to send them back to junior, and avoid the possible risk of bringing them in too soon. Jets and Flames had better established vet cores than the Canucks to help the young guys along, we just traded 2 of the guys on the team who would best fit the role of teaching. In the leafs case they had some very talented players each at different points of their development, but there was enough sheer talent in the group that they could lean on each other and grow together over the year. |

I was just reading an article on Patrick, Hischier, Mittelstadt, Liljegren and Vilardi on a website. I thought it was NHL.com but now I can't find it anymore. Everything I already knew about the players except for one thing that I have not read in an article before.
They mentioned that Mittelstadt is viewed as a playmaker. I have yet to see any highlights to suggest that he is a playmaker. Seen most compare him to Tyler Seguin. I wouldn't call him a playmaker either. |
