It's zero sum. If "2 of Tanev, Edler or Gudbranson" are traded then the likelihood of our younger end guys being successful drops significantly.
More-over, we have a blue-chip goalie prospect who should be knocking on the door within a few years. Throwing Demko out there in front of a cluster-(frank) of a defense will also effect his development.
This draft lottery literally just demonstrated that it, in the grand-scheme of things, doesn't really matter where you finish.
Draft, develop, be patient and create a progressive environment. Selling the farm will not make the process any quicker. - Whiskey-Tango
You cant judge the lottery on one bad outcome. What about if were last next season and get Dahlin then all of a sudden the lottery is great. Still finishing at the bottom gives you the best chance at the best prospects. Its just something to deal with.
Signing UFAs to stop gap contracts is where Id look to for veteran defense.
Not saying your wrong but for me Id like to load up on prospects as quickly as possible so that we can be banging on the door for the post season like toronto did with their quick turnaround. |

I see him as a Ryan Ellis type so I am pretty high on him. - mauryballstein
Not a fan. At the time of the draft when he could have been a target, Avs fandom didn't like him then, don't like him now. Compared to Hayden Fluery...you take him over Bean if you go Hurricane draft picks.

Whatever man you are taking this way to literal. It was a hypothetical point about trading a good portion of your top ranked prospects at the time in 2015. - DDM-Coga
Again, that only applies if you don't acknowledge Grigs was already a bust. What's the point in a inaccurate hypothetical? They did well with compher, Zadorov still could be a top 4. It's not bad, but we're talking elite defensive center. Anyway, the issues he had off-Ice sound no good |

So you disagree with my theory of luck being a factor but if the sabres get lucky they won't be as bad ....gotcha
- Redmile247
You totally missed the point entirely..
If the luck doesnt go your way you stay the course and keep drafting.
Your comparing lotto luck which got the sabres Eichel who is equal Mathews.
I dont even understand where your coming from or the point your attempting to make.
Anyone can see the leafs are hands down the better franchise moving forward. |

Sure, in theory.
But who and where are all these "20 minute a night, one year deal UFA D-men".
We talking about bringing players such as Hunwick, Gudas, Y.Weber, Polak and Bartkowski to insulate our young defense lol? |

As a Canucks fan since their inaugural season, I don't get why we get worked up over some people cheering for other teams on occasion. Sometimes it is out of frustration with payers on the team, management decisions etc. That causes fans to cheer for another team, as well as being a Canucks fan.
Over the years, I have cheered for other teams because I like certain players or team style. I find nothing wrong with that, it is not bandwagon jumping to want a player/s to succeed.
In the past I have cheered for Colorado, because I really enjoyed their style and also liked Sakic, Forsberg and Foote. I have also cheered for Detroit because of Yzerman and Boston because of Neely ( also Bobby Orr made me a hockey fan).
So if someone wants to cheer for another team, especially during these trying times, it does not make them any less of a Canucks fan, just that they enjoy hockey. |

I get what you are saying but fine don't put Bo in there, but someone else in there, I don't care Who was your top rated D prospects 2 years ago.
I wouldnt say Grigs was a bust...I still can't say hes a bust. Hes still an NHL player and produced respectable in a bottom 6 role (10 goals, 25+ points). He isn't stacking up to his draft stock but you could say the same with Virtanen who is looking like the same definition of "bust". |

Russel with the oil.
At the end of the day just get rid of Edler and everyone will be happy |

I don't think they will pull it off either. Losing Tryamkin was a kick in the nuts and now we really don't have any spares . I think Chatfield will be this years Hutton but nothing is black and white right now. |

He won't be cheap, he won't sign a one year deal and he's not good at defense.
Thus, the story of UFA D-men. |

I usually alway cheer for the Canadian teams, this year though I really hope burrows gets his cup.
The preds i dont know why I like them but I do. Subban giving a big (frank) you to montreal would be nice also |

To me 2 of Tanev, Edler or Gudbranson need to go this off season. So we can restock the cupboards while putting our other guys in rolls to see if they can sink or swim, hutton, stetcher and was hoping tryamkin
Our defense needs top prospects in a bad way. At least we have some younger quality guys that can give the guys not on the team yet a chance to develop. - mauryballstein
So, trade 2 of your current top 4 dmen? We are a bottom 5 team in the NHL with them. I can see moving Edler or Tanev but not both. Unfortunately, we need a Guddy type dman, especially with Tryamkin being gone with no outlook of a return.

I don't think the leafs are that much better ...next year the sabres could finish ahead of them
If the leafs had kadri out for half the year, Mathews missed 20 games, nylander missed time, jvr missed time...they probably end up in the same spot as the sabres and you don't think as highly of them
If I had to pick one of the two I probably would pick the leafs ...but I don't think they are leaps and bounds better based on one year

Polak and Gudas have done it before. Kulikov has before as well. Hainsey did it with the Canes earlier this year before he got traded. Again, the idea isn't for them to be as good as Edler or be effective in those roles. The idea is that they can simply eat up those minutes as stopgaps to protect the kids from getting baptized.
It's okay if the team still sucks, but I don't want the youth to be forced into roles where they have zero chance of succeeding. |

Yeah.. I have liked Ottawa for a few years now. Anderson is an underrated goalie, and Stone is a nice player as is Turris.
The player that I am really impressed with though is Karlsson. He has improved his defense substantial in the past couple seasons.
Of course, coach Boucher is one of my favorites.

You can't just pick the best team ever year and say your their fan. You stick with your team no matter what. People that pretended to be Canucks fans in 2011 and now pretend to be die hard oilers fans are so cringe. |

Now that is being bandwagon jumping.
My point was that people can choose to like other teams as well as the Canucks for whatever reason they choose.
I chose to stop watching hockey altogether from the start of 09-10 season until 12-13 season because I was fed up with the style of play on the Canucks and the goonery in the league.
I like the physical aspect of the game and a good fight, but I prefer to see a fight between 2 guys who are regulars, not some goon playing 4 minutes a game.
Just my preference of the brand of hockey that I like. |
