channeling my inner Fitz, drafting 3 times in that 2nd round could have done a lot for us too.
Its a risk but again if the guys in charge know what theyre doing it could payoff. - Sabresfan-365
I hear ya on the second-rounders, but for the most part, you're not going to find a top-half roster talent there...and, I might add, usually those players are considered projects with varying incubation periods...
although the 2014 second round wasn't murray's best, i'm willing to wait another year or two to see how/if cornel and karabacek pan out...both players were rookies playing in their first pro season |

Is there anyone in this draft that has "elite" potential? |

see thats the issue. you want to compete in a hard cap league like this, you absolutely have to find some talent there. Harder than the first round no doubt but when you consider a guy like Guhle, who many fans have pinned their hopes (and has to this point impressed).
If you dont find mccabe in the 2nd round maybe you have yet another overpayed d-man playing above his role? Lots of love for asplund too. Compher?
you trade down you maximize your chance on hitting on these picks and finding your own guentzel or arvidsson etc. |

i know people will say hes riding crosbys coattails and to an extent they may be right but Guentzel is the exact type of pick the sabres should be making in this draft.
you look at the way he produced his draft year and somehow got overlooked till the third round. You stock up on picks and look into finding guys like him it eventually pays off. |

Guentzel is an example of finding the "right" player as opposed to the "best" one. |

probably both. his performance definitely justified going at least somewhere late 2nd round. |

I get it...no doubt you need those lower round picks, but traditionally expectations are very low for prospects from the lower-first on down...relative to the strength of the draft class, of course |

Agreed. I just see it as an opportunity to restock the cupboards prospect wise. There isnt a whole lot of certainty with this draft and lots of risk with any pick past 2 really.
if they cant get move the pick for nhl talent, this may be the next thing. |

Looks like the NHL has no intent to release the lottery combinations so I can't release the ball by ball version of the lottery simulator this year
