Same people are now acting like OJ just dominated the OHL this year. There's young dmen putting up similar numbers in the AHL this year and/or last year that haven't cracked NHL rosters yet.
Let's wait and see before anointing this kid as NHL-ready and trading out players to gift him a roster spot. - Nucker101
Olli arguably wasn't even the best d-man on London this year. So I hope he gets sent back
How many prospects can legitimately say they out-grew junior
Ehlers
McDavid
Provorov
Marner
Heck Drouin & Strome got sent back after putting up well over 2 PPG average
always take advantage of Junior eligibility will you can

I'm always fascinated to see how draft prospect hype works.
Like Glass has all of a sudden become a top 5 pick for a lot of people, but about 45-60 days ago, he was only top 10 on some lists despite pretty steady production all year long.
Makar and Mittlestadt hype was high during the last month or 2, but has settled down since the rise of Glass and Heiskanen. Not that they're falling in rankings, they're just getting a bit less attention than Glass now.
Heiskanen's rise in hype I do understand after the tournament he just had, but the rest is all very interesting to follow.
Glass went from someone who I thought was underrated 2 months ago to now seeing a lot of people/rankings have him higher than I do. Someone posts a chart comparing him and Johansen along with a quote from his coach who compared and the 2 and voilà! |

That's why even in a bad year like this one I never read into prospect profiles much until around now, when draft order is determined and the season is wrapping up. Seems like a waste of time to me considering how much movement there can be even among the top picks |

If you draft for need your list is probably more consistent throughout the year. But if you are looking for BPA then, for this draft anyway, your list will be constantly changing.
The canucks are in the drivers seat in rounds 2 to 7 so I think they can really fine tune their list for their specific needs. |

Just curious what do you think is behind the hype and change in rankings?
Are mock draft sites and pundits like Button , who does watch the players live, looking for hits on their posted lists? Are they just changing things up to garner interest?
Granted this draft has a lot of interchangeable parts from 3-20. So...?

Funny thing is some people are still penciling in OJ/Dahlen next year as if the NHL roster spots are theirs to lose. No, they should earn it and show that they're physically and mentally mature enough to handle a 82 game season.
I know everyone's sick of the fringe boring NHL vets, but rushing shiny new toys has already cost this team once before, so why do it again? Canucks are going to suck next year no matter what anyway. - Nucker101

The Canucks have selected four players fourth overall in franchise history:
Jere Gillis (1977)
Bill Derlago (1978)
Jim Sandlak (1985)
Bryan Allen (1998).
That's a combined 1,034 games and 391 points for the canucks.

Button hasn't posted a list in awhile, I think people just get excited when they see quotes from coaches/scouts bunched together with some impressive stats, which I understand.
I mean it's obviously intriguing when Glass compares as a better prospect than Ryan Johansen stat-wise coupled with the fact that his own coach compares him to Johansen(he's coached them both). I just find it interesting that so many NHL fans were unaware of how good he was up until this recent hype surge. Just goes to show how much most NHL fans rely on popular lists/analysts to tell them how they should feel about prospects.
I feel like in the NFL/NBA(NCAA being the only league to follow helps), there's more fans who are critical of the "experts" and analysts rather than NHL fans looking at Bob MacKenzie's list like:

Most people here something good or bad about a prospect and they generally move them about 20 spots up or down. Most of the time it should be about 5 spots up or down. |
