Any idea who is making the calls for us? - Slump Buster
It's a collaboration
89 is on call now
Broads is later
Sabres365 is last
But really I think it's Mark Jakubowski |

Good, I was worried that Douche was on the list. I can imagine an argument breaking out over the interview times.

too general of a statement, hes in general closer to being among the best 2nd pair guys than the worst.
There's some risk involved like there is with any free agent signing but when you put into context what it normally costs to add that kind of 2nd pair guy (see anaheim asking for a top 10 pick for fowler) this by comparison is somewhat of a bargain. - Sabresfan-365
While it's always nice to sign a UFA, bc u don't have to give up assets like a top10 pick...
if it's the wrong guy, it's still a bad idea!
Shattenkirk is a top pair guy offensively
Defensively, he a #4 at best
He's frankly not a good fit here anyways
Is he a partner for Risto?
Nope, they're both RH shots
Do we need him for our PP?
Nope, we're already very solid there
Does he help the PK?
He's certainly not known for that
Is he strong in his own end?
According to Sbroads, he's got good possession numbers.
So that tells me he can get the puck out of the zone.
While that's valuable, isn't it also a MAJOR concern that he consistently has the WORST (by a big margin) +/- of all defensemen on his team?
All u have to do is watch to see that he's average defensively & makes too many mistakes in his own end.
This is why he's the #5 on the Caps
It's why he was #4 on StL
And it's why the Blues chose to trade him instead of extend him
I'm not saying he sucks
He just is t the right fit for us
He makes much more sense as a partner for someone like McDonaugh in NyR where he can be on the top PP than he does here,
Where he'd be on Pair 2 and PP2

I was not kidding, but I know some (most?) people wont like the idea, but what dont you like about it? - Lilroot9
I don't like anything about it. I think teams should draft where they finished. 30th=1st. If there is going to be a lottery maybe it should only involve the bottom 5 teams. Definitely should not involve teams that just missed the playoffs
Why should a team be forced to trade their 1st round picks?. |

shat leads team in worst +/- this playoffs
-7 - homiedclown
Yeah, he's consistently exposed in the playoffs
This isn't a new thing
I know it probably comes off like I think he's a horrible playe
I don't
Just think he'd be a horrible signing for US
He's not what we need imo |

I like the idea that I think was credited to one of the guys that appears on GR (I think it was Macindo from Down Goes Brown): draft order should be the inverse of all of the points earned after a team was eliminated from the playoffs.

Do the Sabres get scoring from their defense - No
Does Kevin Shattenkirk score a lot- Yes
Do the Sabres have issues with possession/ Shot differentials - Yes
Is Kevin Shattenkirk good in terms of possession/ Shot differentials - Yes
I fail to see how he doesn't fit here. If you don't want to pay him 7 million, I can see that argument. But bad fit, nah not a chance. |

Hes a puck mover and generates scoring 5v5. Hes a good fit, hes just likely bad value at the kind of cap hit we expect it will take to get him.
If we're talking bad fit its the guy who's billed as defensively strong even though hes not and is still going to command big money...even lower on the caps depth chart than shattenkirk.

Bc we obviously don't need him on our PP |

We don't need him, but he'd help.
I mean, I know Risto is our #1 PP guy, but the guy might end up missing games at some point in his career.
This defense needs all the help it can get.
I am in agreement that he's been a garbage fire lately, but that happens all the time with rentals. Some just don't have time to mesh |

Alzner is NOT lower on the Caps depth chart than Shattenkirk
Shattenkirk is on pair 3, and gets the 5th most icetime
Alzner is above him in BOTH respects
Can we not find a "puck mover" who is better at DEFENSE?
And will cost less than 6mil +
How much will Shattenkirk's numbers drop when he's on our PP2 instead of racking up points on PP1? |

So let's make it harder for teams who aren't good to get out of the basement, that's a great solution.
Tanking is pretty obvious when it happens, but only happens when there is generational players at the top right?
I think it's overblown big time by the media and fans of teams who feel ripped off by a lottery. Yknow, like Toronto media when it isn't their team 'tanking' and buffalo fans. Teams that decide to go in that direction will mostly do so regardless, just happens to be when there is can't miss talent at the top that people have issues with it. |

Of course the defense needs all the help it can get
It's NOT just "lately" with Shattenkirk though
That's why I used the +/- stats to show you that it's been 2 full seasons and a minimum of 2 playoffs now
It's not just this series
Please explain to me why you're discounting that he's consistently on the ice letting in goals a significant amount more than his teammates
None of those Blues defensemen are even remotely close in +/- over the last 2 seasons
Shattenkirk is something like -18, and the next worse guy is a +2 or something like that
How is that not a concern to you that shows he's a defensive liability? |

Not big on Corsi or Fenwick, but Shatt's are 53.7 and 54.1 respectively. One thing that would concern me is that for a real good possession guy that is supposed to be a good puck mover, why would he have 57% offensive zone starts versus 43 defensive starts? Actually, this year it was more like 60/40. |

Sure, but when I use stats to back up my position you tell me to watch the game.
I can't make you budge. If you don't want him, I understand. Agree to disagree |
