If we are going to trade with the Islanders its going to cost them, they can walk away if they don't like it - but they need to do something to resign Taveras and Kovy would be it. Therefore a #1 and Barzal, nothing less to a crosstown rival. - redmonsters
Seems like were more likely to trade with a florida team, what do you think we could fetch from either tampa or more likely the panthers? |

Last two are pretty big gap and in 14 we were in the playoffs I believe. - ClaudeFather
That was implied. And with the addition of or development of players, this year the Devils need to shore up their defense could be a playoff team next season. |

do you think Nico and Nolan play in the NHL next year? I could see Nico going back with the one year in North America but if he goes into camp and belongs he might force his way onto one of our NHL rosters. Is he AHL eligible as well? |

Tampa can't afford Kovy. As for FLA, it starts their a 1st. What Ray should do is sign Kovy and then eat 50% cap to get a much higher return.
I would be interested to see if he would go to SJ, Mier would be the guy I would target. |

Most scouts seem to think they'll both be in the NHL next year, but just shouldn't be expected to put up anything like McDavid/Matthews/Laine rookie numbers. |

This is an interesting idea. Especially if it's a short term deal, which it almost definitely would be. |

Patrick has to play the in NHL or juniors no other options, but Nico because he is loaned to the QMJHL, can be sent to the AHL. |

Yeah he's AHL eligble and i think Nico will need a season in the A before he's ready, I do think Patrick is NHL ready. I dont know if's he's on a top line with Hall yet but he has the size and tools to play in the NHL next season. I think with Nico its more about building size and getting used to playing against bigger stronger guys. He's light for someone that 6 foot. |

I'm looking at when Hall and Pat/His would have to be signed, 3 years from now, so either 2 years or 3 years would be fine with me. |

Between his age and insecurities about how much he can still produce in the NHL, I'd be pretty surprised to see anyone commit to him for more than a year or two. |

Kovi for only 2 years wont get us Meier, SJ would know once Kovi's contract is up he's gone. Not worth giving up a future piece for a guy that will only be there for 2-3 years at most. |

I agree but I also don't think San Jose (or anyone) wants to be committed to a 34 year old Kovalchuk who is four years removed from the NHL for more than a couple of seasons.
My preference with the Kovy thing is for him to start the season with NJ, if he lights it up and proves he's still Kovalchuk we can trade him to a contender at the deadline, I bet for more than we'd get for him right now with all of the question marks. |

But if it turns our Kovi cant produce were better off getting the higher value at the beginning of the season. Its realy a decision of whether we think he's more valuable now than he will be at the trade deadline. |

What if BOS 2nd was included? SJ doesn't have one.
SJ will lose one of Thornton or Marleau and have the space and Deboer is familiar with Kovy. |

For sure, like a lot of things in sports management it's a gamble. I'm just saying that if I were the GM of the Devils I would bet that Kovalchuk ends up producing more than most people around the league thinks he will right now, and that there could be a contending team with a clear hole in their top 6 on the wing that would pay a ton for him for a cup run. Teams seem to be more willing to trade a ton of assets to go "all in" at the deadline than they are during the summer. |

I don't know maybe I'm being a little vindictive and irrational but after what went down with Kovy I feel like if we're trading him this summer I want something pretty significant coming back. If we're just talking a 2nd and some no-name prospect I'd almost prefer to just stick it to Kovy and keep him in Russia. |

The only team that really gave up a poop ton was MIN. I don't think we will really get a big difference say now or next March. Kovy would be older and May not want to be traded in the middle of the year.

No name? Timo Meier is gonna be a good player, probably one of SJ's best prospects behind Labanc.
And SJ wouldn't have to give up their 1st this year, to get a 1st liner. |
