It is undeniable that with out the Pegulas we may not have a hockey team and possibly no football team as well. I am very thankful they swooped in and saved our Sabres and Amerks. With that being said the best analogy I can think of is a Restaurant ownership group whom have never run a restaurant trying to tell the GM and Executive chef how to run a restaurant and how to cook. I get, it has not been good up to this point and i'm sure Terry thought Murray and Byslma were the answer. When that back fired it got ugly.
Don't let frustrations cloud judgement. Find the right VP, have your current management team interview and hire him and let the VP find a new GM for us. - lulags
Were they ever in danger of leaving? I know the Bills would be gone.. |

I know we were financially distressed when the Pegulas bought. Not sure if it was the end of the road but if they didn't buy the Sabres it may have been |

On Connolly, Vanek, etc: After 48 and 23 left, they gave up because they realized ownership didn't care to ice a winning product. Add in the fact that Connolly was ruined by concussions and 5 years of bad drafting, and the fact that we never brought in effective free agents, that team was doomed. Vanek played through so many injuries in those last playoff runs. It's easy to blame the players but they were a product of circumstance.
Vanek was always wrongly scapegoats by the fans because Lindy made him whipping boy #1 |

Gary Bettman committed to keeping the sabres here, and I think Galisano would have kept them had Pegula not showed up |

In January, Golisano reportedly issued a counteroffer with an asking price of US$175 million.[21] Pegula and Golisano reached an agreement to sell the team on January 29, 2011, with Pegula buying the team for $189 million ($175 million with $14 million in debt included)[22][23] with the Sabres and Golisano officially making an announcement in a press conference on February 3, 2011.[24] League owners approved the sale on February 18.[25] In the conference, it was revealed that an unnamed bidder submitted a much higher bid than Pegula's, but made the bid contingent upon moving the team |

Come on, there were some great Sabres playoff runs for a few years there. In fact, I think they were the first team to really adopt today's high-tempo style and they caught the league by surprise a bit for a while.

Not too many happy Blues fans here in STL. They do not have what it takes to take down the Preds. They are just too fast and skilled. PR is impossible to beat as well. Playing out of his mind. I don't see anyone stopping them from winning the cup. |

Golisano was never the long term answer. i know first hand from my mother in law (who helped Golisano build paychex) he was a stop gap between owners |

Doesn't surprise me; he didn't have deep pockets, but I don't think he would have sold to anyone to move the sabres |

Interesting. But i think as another poster stated, Bettman/The league wanted them to stay in Buffalo. Not sure if you need the league approval to move a team? but if that was the case i think they would have voted against it. Nore would Golisano sell it to anyone that wanted to move them |

Probably when Campbell killed Umberger.
Or when they ran out of defensemen in 2006. |

If we had Terry's backing in the mid 2000's we would have a cup. Unfortunately we set the tone for the new NHL style of play and then had a fire sale instead of a couple of cup runs. |

Found this in the article
The description(of the offer) is consistent with that of Jim Balsillie, who has made public his efforts to move a team to Hamilton, Ontario, a move that the Sabres have actively opposed |

Gary Bettman too. I'm sure when the league owned the Sabres there were offers to buy and relocate |

2005-2007 ... couldn't get over that hump. injuries destroyed them one year, the ottawa owned them the next.. then they lost all their leadership that summer and threw the team on Vanek's back.. |
