Well it means he's less terrible than the guys in the 5-6 and the two guys sitting.

None of those 4 could play with Phaneuf and defend against the other team's top line.

Claesson, Englund (why even mention him?), Boro, Harpur etc, would have been absolutely eaten alive if they had to take a regular shift against the Marchand/Bergeron line in round 1.

agree to disagree I guess..............had you put any of those guys (except maybe boro who I think is even worse than ceci) on that pair I think you would have noticed very little difference

you guys need to take a break from poopting on ceci, he has been doing very well for us in his role.

Using him as a whipping boy is getting very tiring to hear all the time. These playoffs have shown that we need him and that he deserves more recognition for the work he has been putting in.

Last night might not have been his best game, but I'd venture to say that last night was many of our players worst games of the season. Not taking anything away from the rangers, they came out hard and straight up intimidated our guys into playing gutless hockey for the better part of the game.

He has 1 assist, is a -2, and has had pretty much the worst possession numbers of any player on the team..........not sure how that shows we "need him".

He doesn't put up points, spends most of his shifts pinned in his own end (often due to his own mistakes) and is on the ice for considerably more goals against than for......and he has a non existent physical game.

What exactly does he do well?

not sure where you're getting the "claessen struggles" thing from.....he played on the top pair and looked good, and has looked very good on the bottom pair. yesterday wasn't great but that was much more a result of harper having a terrible game.

I also think englund has looked very strong in his limited time with Ottawa

I'm convinced Chabot is already the 2nd or 3rd best d-man on this team and I think if he came up to the big team today he'd instantly pass ceci on the depth chart.

ceci gets lots of ice time for the same reason that cowen got lots of ice time.....the team has invested time and $$ in him and are too stubborn to admit that they made a mistake. ceci isn't quite the tire fire than cowen was...........but he's not far off. people love to point to the fact that he plays lots of minutes as justification for him not sucking, but fail to point out that he looks AWFUL in pretty much all of those minutes.

Chabot is not available right now.
Englund is not ready for full time NHL action, let alone taking Ceci's spot.
I do not share your level of enthusiasm for Claesson. It is much easier to look good when Karlsson is your partner.
I also do not have the same level of love for Wideman as has often been expressed on this site.
Ceci may make mistakes but he is playing 20+ minutes a game is handling the puck much more than the forwards and most other defencemen.
In my view (and the coach's view), Ceci is the second best right handed defenceman on the team.

agreed..... the only people hazing Ceci are the people on this board. Coaches and commentators, who know more than most of us, are praising the kid.

I am by no means an expert, but my eye test says he plays 20+ mins a night against the oppositions top line and they've had success thus far.

he aint perfect, but he is young and has potential....

Replace ceci with cowen and this post is identical to what people were posting here 4 years ago

The Ceci stuff is what it is. Sens didn't do a great job on his development. When we drafted him, he was a good all around guy with a decent slap shot. The Sens tried to turned him into a shut down guy and here we are. I don't think he is great, but I don't think he is in Cowen territory, just yet.

Karlsson does not look healthy. He has lost a gear this series. I'm not sure how much longer his foot can hold out. Scary part is, he is still one of the most dangerous players on the ice. He could certainly use a bit of time off if we are to advance.

Andy. Stop playing the (frank)ing puck.

I'm super surprised Stone is still struggling. He just seems to be on the wrong side of everything this playoffs. It has to turn around sooner or later.

Rangers played well last night. Have to give them credit. Sens need to match the level of urgency. It was none existent last night. Sort of looked like a team playing game 54 in the regular season. Safe to say they will be better in game 4. The most important game in any series.

Anderson, Stone, and Hoffman need to be better. I trust they will.
- AlfieFever

Not sure why you lump Hoffman in there. He was all over the puck trying to make things happen every shift last game, went into the corners against guys who are much bigger than him and took a beating but still ended up with the puck several times. The only thing i can fault Hoffman on is not having a true #1 C to go with him

I'd argue game 7 is more important
