Any thought of trading the pick? What if the offer is Fowler, Silverberg and Anaheim's 1? - jtirri
If that was the offer for the #1 pick then it would be confirmed that Bob Murray loves taking bath salts |

I now think the Devils should offer the #1 pick to the Jets for Jacob Trouba. Then they don't have to make a choice. - mcjags
I dont think it's the worst idea. I love Trouba and he is our best D, I dont want to lose him but I'm also not convinced he wants to be here. The Jets would have to have another deal worked out where we are trading someone like Kyle Connor or Jack Raslovik for a young NHL Ready D though to help fill the role left behind from Trouba. Maybe they can even make the trade bigger to include Scheider? |

What could you possibly offer the devils for Cory and the 1st overall pick? Please I would love to hear this |

For me Nico's sample size is just too small and his past season could possibly be a fluke not saying it is but there is a chance while Patrick has had 3 solid seasons with The Wheat Kings also not so sure Nico will be able to be as flashy and skate around defenders at the next level but Patrick has the size to continue to do what he does in the NHL I hope the Devils go Patrick and Nico turns out to be a bust because (frank) the flyers - Devils314
This is where I am too. The fact that Nolan has been the consensus #1 for this draft for a couple years while Nico wasn't even in most rankings' top 15 last summer gives me some pause on Nico. Maybe that's a stupid way to look at it, obviously players change and the player who goes #1 overall doesn't always end up being the best player in the draft.
I looked back at other recent non McDavid/Matthews first overall picks to see where they were in the rankings a year prior. They are not always #1, but they're almost always in the top three or right around there. Nugent-Hopkins was #3 on most lists I've found. MacKinnon #2. The fact that Hischier wasn't even in the top 15 a year ago makes me worried about recency bias, especially when Patrick has been #1 for so long. |

If the Devils were already stacked and needed a flashy player and could afford to roll the dice I would be ok with Nico but they are not and need to play it safe they better pick Patrick |

It definitely seems like Nico is the more high risk high reward pick, whereas Nolan is the safer but lower ceiling pick. I do tend to agree that with where the Devils are I feel they should maybe go with the safer pick. I guess you could make the argument that the injury history makes Nolan a risky pick as well. |

Could the blame that Nico wasn't ranked higher based on less scouts in Switzerland and that had he been Canadian or American (or even Russian) he'd have gotten more love?
Not that scouts have a Canadian bias or anything... |

i'd prefer Cory over the number one overall. Jets do not need a young center, taking the local kid (Patrick) would be tempting though. It would also probably mean that Jack Raslovik no longer fits into the Jets plans. so maybe something like Trouba/Raslovik/Helly and 13th overall. this would be more than enough and I'd expect something added on your end. To be honest, I wouldn't make this trade for the Jets, but you asked what it may look like. |

I wouldn't call him a shutdown center but I see what he's saying. McLeod is very good defensively and there have been questions about how much he'll score (in terms of goals) at the next level. - Todd.Cordell
He just made it seem like he's going to be John madden |

McLeod is a shutdown center? News to me. - shvingter88
Isn't that what he was billed as? A 200 ft, defensively responsible center? His draft comparable was Ryan Kesler (who last time I checked has a Selke trophy).
This is a quote from his draft prospect profile from the hockey writers:
"McLeod is the type of player who will become a NHL team’s shutdown guy, the guy they send out against the big guy from the other side."
Maybe that's not the case anymore, but I haven't heard anything to the contrary. |

I'd be curious about the comparison of tapes from last year and not this one. I'm a little worried about him having a year.
I still want Patrick. |

We will gladly take the consensus number one overall pick from the past few years if you guys pass on him. |

You make a great point. Believe me if the injuries weren't there then there would be no talk of who's #1. Idk man can't we have them both |

Best quote of the day. Because (frank) the Flyers....
Also because I agree with the rest of the post. I'm just going to leave it to Ray & the scouts. It's there choice and hopefully they make the best one. |

Recency bias doesn't really exist. It would if 70% of the cases of late risers ended up being worse than they were drafted at, but that's almost never the case (the number is much lower). Scouts are really careful with these things.
Edit: Looking at it the other way, though, where would guys be ranked not judging previous performances at all? |

For sure and I trust the scouts and Shero to make the right decision. I'm talking about recency bias more in terms of fans and analysts than I am in terms of scouts and the people making the actual decisions. |

When you're dealing with kids, this doesn't concern me much at all. They mature at different rates. I mean, the best players in that draft were picked in the 2nd and 4th rounds (Kucherov and Gaudreau). |

It's actually not a terrible offer. I mean, it's not enough obviously. But it's not the worst offer in exchange for a #1 overall pick I've seen. |
