He lead the Ducks in minutes and the team finished at the top of their div. - fry
Now let me tell you how I see it because I saw the same thing.
He played the most pp minutes on his team, on top of the heavy minutes, and he has 39 points, which to me, is low for a d-man playing heavy minutes. His GF%, on one of the best teams in the league, is barely above ground and mid tiered. He performed 26th among all d in points, and 13th in minutes played. Last year, he was really bad, this year, he was "adequate"... oh and his playing partner is Hampus Lindholm (well it looks like it from minutes played).
He's pretty much slightly better than Severson... a bit more responsible defensively. Would YOU move a first overall for an "adequate" 3-4 guy who can fill in 1st pairing if someone else doesn't fit?
There's a reason he's been in trade rumours; Anaheim feel that he can be turned into a better asset. I also happen to believe the same thing... |

Is there a date kovy has to sign with the devil's if he were to return to the NHL?
I have a feeling that depending on interest draft day for a trade the devils may hold on to him to see if they can convince shat to join the devils which I doubt but they do have the $$$ to make it work
Could be a little enticing to get Nolan or Nico, Kovy and shat for the future with McLeod getting closer, if we draft Nolan and address our D and zacha progresses we could possibly challenge for the playoffs
Lots of if's and highly doubt it happens but would bring some excitement to the devils |

No pooptenkirk. Overhyped. In a surprise twist Devils now have assets to trade for young dman, including Kovys rights. Anaheim got lots of young D....

I know shat isn't exactly the best defensively and we need d help but he can move the puck and create offense and run a power play, something the devils need from the back and we don't really have anyone in the system that can do that other than severson, so is it ideal no but he is the best option if available without giving up the limited assets we have
I don't know how much kovy would bring back and if it's true that he only wants to play in the NY area or Florida that really restricts trade options |

Any ideas who could be a good pick up in the 2nd round? Defense or forward? - dmarsden2988
You have to wait to see who falls first and then make a decision, someone always falls. Probably D but if a prospect falls into your lap its best available. I would think that a G is out of the questkon though. |

I always forget how Newark is not the New York area
I couldn't blame him for wanting to play in Florida though. That's where I'd go, make millions playing hockey and chill on the beach all year. |

Anaheim is going to lose a good defenseman to the expansion draft. I'd be amazed at them even getting face value in a trade since the alternative is trading him for nothing. For him to even ball park a #1 Pick is ridiculous. They're lucky if they sniff the top 10 for fowler. |

The trade is apparently the 3rd overall and Lehtonen for Schneider. Get it done Shero! |

Not sure if this has been brough up but I know a lot of people think differently so I thought I would share this from Mr. Meltzers blog regarding Nico.
"In Hischier's case, however, Mooseheads reporter Scott MacIntosh wrote on Twitter that Hischier was NOT a loan arrangement but rather a full transfer to Halifax. As such, the player would be subject to the AHL's age restrictions requiring CHL-affiliated players under the age of 20 to be returned to their junior team if they do not play in the NHL." |

... I don't think GMs are taking suggestions from radio guys.
The Stars will be talking all June about what to do with that 3rd pick and will likely want at least something in the first round before they think about moving it. |

Perfectly fair to be suspicious but the account said it was a full on rumor at this point. Who knows. At the very least it's fun to hope for. |

For me Nico's sample size is just too small and his past season could possibly be a fluke not saying it is but there is a chance while Patrick has had 3 solid seasons with The Wheat Kings also not so sure Nico will be able to be as flashy and skate around defenders at the next level but Patrick has the size to continue to do what he does in the NHL I hope the Devils go Patrick and Nico turns out to be a bust because (frank) the flyers - Devils314
I've been thinking the same thing. How bad is this draft class that Nico name never came up before this year? What if it is a fluke? He might be a taller Sergei Samsanov. At least Nolan has proven year after year, he won title, MVP. He is the safer pick. And with this being the first overall for Devils since forever, might be best not to (frank) it up and go safer with Nolan. |

Still hard to believe we had him. Was a magical couple years.. - Leniwm1
Watching that he looks like the exact same player to me and I noticed how similarly he and Mcdavid skate I am usually more about moving players while they have the most value but I am with Todd on Kovalchuk. He was one of my absolute fav players to watch and I always felt he was one of the top 3 players in the world. |
