All I read about is how bare the cupboards are, yet you keep wanting to trade Fasching. How about we let him develop his game. His strengths are Strong along the wall, drives to the net with and without the puck, solid 200 foot player, skating needs to improve, but not slow of foot. I can see why our team doesn't need a player like that.
IMHO, I don't think Tanev is a better hockey player than Fowler.
The only defensemen I am trading pick #8 for are Mattias Elkholm or Marc Edourd Vlasic.
Everybody needs to stop wanting a puck moving defenseman, we need a defensive specialist to team with Risto and unleash Risto's offensive capabilities. Antipin, if he signs is a puck moving defenseman as is Guhle and McCabe can be one too if they could let him

Agree with just about everything you say here
I dont "want" to trade Fasching, he could develop to be a 20 goal scoring net presence for sure
BUT...
I like Nylander, Bailey & Baptiste better
(All are RWs along w Fasching)
And part of the reason is that they're all very good skaters,
while Fasching still has work to do (he's definitely improved though)

So I guess I'd say our 2 best assets for trading are Fasching & pick8
I'd prefer to keep the pick & move Fasching +

IF possible

I say get the best guy available at 8 or trade down to get more picks and then fill in organizational depth (defense) with the rest of the picks
- Sabre_Tooth

Brendan Guhle- 19
Vojtech Budik- 19
Austin Omanski- 19
William Borgen- 20
Devante Stephans- 20
Casey Fitzgerald- 20
Brycen Martin- 20
Philip Nyberg- 20
Anthony Florentino- 22
Ivan Chukarov- 22
Brady Austin- 23
Casey Nelson- 24
That is our organizational depth right now.
If we get a fist full of these players to succeed then we will be all right, defensemen take the longest to develop then any other player. There is not a single person who responds on this blog who knows who will pan out and who won't, not even me, But I'm willing to be patient and see how it all plays out.

Kind of an aside, but I wonder if the best asset or chance of landing we have could come from upgrading. Trade McCabe/Guhle and a good asset, to get a top pairing defender back. Or are we just so weak on the back end we shouldn't even consider that?

Organizational RW depth

Okposo
Reinhart (should be moved back to Center imo)
Nylander
Pu
Bailey (was playing a lot of LW last year too)
Baptiste
Fasching

I think u could take Pu, Bailey & Baptiste and put them in any order
They're all ahead of Fasching imo bc of skating, but I'd also say that Fasching is the best bet front presence of the group
All 4 could project to be 20 goal scorers though imo

Besides Guhle, no one is a sure thing imo to be a good NHLer
Borgen & Fitz have a chance, but idk if they are "top4" quality
The others are all lotto tix imo

Good point

I guess it depends...
Are we upgrading from McCabe to Vatanen?
bc then I'd say no thanks

But is McCabe part of a package to get Lindholm?
Then ok

I think the issue is...
we can't afford to give up McCabe or Guhle unless we are getting a young "top pair" defenseman
And imo, teams aren't gonna trade their Lindholm or Dumba, etc
They'll move their #4 guy instead

I know a lot of ppl here are high on Pu,
but I like Baptiste even more so far

Both 3rd round picks
*actually, both were chose 69th

The year after they were drafted:
Pu, 35-51-86pts
Baptiste, 44-45-89pts

I think many on here underrate Baptiste
He's got a chance to be a really nice NHLer for us
And that kid can really skate
He might be the fastest skater we have

Many feel that Dumba projects to be a top pair guy like Lindholm
Not that they are on equal footing right now

I just meant,
Minny probably trades Brodin or Scandella instead

And trading McCabe + for a guy of that caliber doesn't make sense to me

U wouldn't have said that last year though
Brodin had a really rough year

Regardless...
all I'm saying is, don't trade McCabe or Guhle unless it's for a top pair guy

I was going to bring up Tanev earlier. Spectrum had a write-up about Vancouver trading him. They are looking to rebuild, but have another year of the Sedins and Eriksson now making $8m they may have to rebuild on the fly rather than total rebuild. That being said, would you trade Kane, McCabe and add a pick if needed for Tanev and Juolevi?

We just picked him last year
He had a really nice season in Juniors this year
Pu has one more year there, then Rochester
He's a really good skater

I'll say this...
of all the forward prospect we have,
Almost all of them are excellent skaters & the ones who make the Sabres in the next few years will definitely improve our team speed

Nope... giving up too much imo
If I knew for sure that Juolevi was gonna be better than McCabe, and was ready for top4 duty next year...
then I'd consider it

I'd at least call to see what they wanted for Tanev though

McCabe is Jay McKee 2.0

long term stay at home guy once he's rounded you wont have to worry about.
and he's going to put up more points than McKee.

Too bad Murray "ignored defencemen" in the draft.....even though approximately 40% of his draft picks are defencemen.
