Laughton, Amac and like a 3rd 4th and 5th. Throw in a bag of pucks.
Outside of that! no thanks.

Nico - PhillySportsGuy
I think I do as well, but I admit I'm really wavering lately. Maybe I'm just covering my bases because we don't know who we will get. But I have seen a ton of Patrick the previous 2 years, what with Provorov and all. But between his injuries, already seeing him a lot, and the sheer improbability we could ever have a chance to draft him, I only saw him once this year, until I've been re-watching a handful of this season's games recently. Hischier I've seen a bunch because he played Rouyn Noranda in the playoffs, the u20s, the u18s. He's fresh in my mind, and I love his game immensely and the fit, but Patrick is a great player too, and seeing the hot new thing get a lot of attention, I almost forgot just how good he is. Groin is the only issue, and it too may be a non-issue long-term. It wasn't noticeable watching his games after returning.
It's mentioned a lot that Halifax isn't a good team, but Brandon was about the same level in the WHL. This wasn't last year's team. Patrick's relative GF% was like +25%. He completely carried them when in, despite the BS narrative about a scaled point drop of like 2. Only one other player was above a p/pg on Brandon, and he wasn't a frequent linemate and is 21. So, unsurprisingly, the only stat that Patrick dipped in this year is assists.
I think Nico's speed is a touch overrated too. His edges and agility are elite, but straight line, he's just "good." Has to work on that himself. Patrick needs to improve, but he does have potentially above average feet with power skating work. Healthy offseason should help. He flashes it already. If that comes, the rest of his game in style and his body type remind me of Kopitar.....though as an absolute ceiling. But Kopi is a good skater. I think Hischier's defensive game is completely not given the credit it deserves either. It's very close between the two there. Patrick is just a total pro in every zone. Detailed and subtle out the wazoo, but with a real powerful, predatory offensive game too. Everything he does is intelligent and precise and hard. I think Nico plays on the puck more and is more dangerous in space, given his skill-set, but the way Patrick can transition the puck and create entries for himself or linemates and dissect the o-zone with a smidgen more purpose is a pleasure to watch. Hischier plays a hard, gritty game himself in both ends, but being 6'3" 220lbs one day is a different level. Not to mention his shot. It's very possible they holistically end up the same grade player. For all the talk of how different they are, they're far more similar than dissimilar. If I said, if they both hit their ceilings, would you take a Kopitar type or a Zetterberg type? If you said, I don't know, that's where I'm sort of at. |

Sanheim or Myers plus. Plus may be a 2nd or 3rd....I'm in the camp with, he is an ultra skilled kid. You try to make a deal for him...with in reason. Drouin is only getting better. If the lightning are looking for young d on rookie deals then those are the guys they probably would want. Obviously Provorov isn't going anywhere....and Ghost is going to be paid starting this year at a higher #.

flyers are very high on sanheim
they're ranking him up with provorov
so he's probably not getting traded |

I want nico simply because I think his game will translate better to the NHL. I can't envision him not being a good player. There is more risk with Patrick IMHHO!!! |

I don't think there's any risk to either as players (excluding the injuries). Both look like pro-style, 2-way, 1C potential centers to me, each in their own way. I would probably, maybe prefer Nico, but if we somehow get Patrick -- and supposedly there are rumors the Devils prefer him, and their scouting director is a very skills-type evaluator -- I don't want myself to be set up for disappointment because we didn't get Niiiiico. Because there's no disappointment to be had.
Besides, we all know who the better player will end up being: whichever one goes to the Flyers. For real though. He's set up for success. |
