I mentioned last night that I think a good use of review would be to allow coaches to challenge high sticking penalties. Switch the penalty if it is determined the guy fakes it. It is really annoying, especially at important times.
- YuenglingJagr

Disagree. Reviews are getting out of control as it is.

Anyway, did [Pens guy] really fake it? They kept showing the one replay where it wasn't conclusive, imho. Then they cut to the Oilers/Ducks immediately after the game ended so I didn't see if there are other angles available. If I'm remembering correctly, something abruptly stopped the stick, though, whether it was his face, visor, chest, I don't know.

I mean...still just one review so I don't think it gets out of control. It isn't as subjective as goaltender interference though and often means more than "was this guy's skate blade on the ice 30 seconds ago?"

Thanks, Bill. Wasn't sure what his age was.
I have issues still with the top picks going back to jrs. For the most part I think they develop faster in the AHL. You get better by practice and playing tougher competition.

- jaws1955

Didn't Bill say Nico can't go to the AHL or are you referring to development in general?

It is just a different form of diving. The league needs to get some balls and really slap the players with REAL fines and suspensions. I don't see it coming, but please, no more reviews.
Speaking of reviews. I have seen less contact called interference then Perry did in bumping Talbet. Then the Oilers can't challenge the offside. Hate Corey Perry and Getzlef too. Kessler too while we are at it.

Just in general. I know why the rule is there and it serves a real purpose for the Jr teams but it forces top picks to play in a lesser league.

Has anyone listened to Hextall's phone call with NHL network?

Obviously there wasn't much insight to gather about the Flyers, but he did say he "jumped off his couch" when he saw Jets picked 13th.

Also said some cool stuff about his playing days

- YuenglingJagr

The best part was after telling that story he admitted he only revealed it because they caught him in a good mood.

I can see that easily turn into, "did the stick actually hit his face or did it just graze his hipster beard and he was simply reacting to the stick coming toward his face?" Or "well, it barely hit his face but his reaction was way exaggerated but, still, it did make contact with skin so..."

Frank that noise.

Video reviews suck and should be done away with completely.

I hear what your saying, a guy like Strome was caught in between and didn't benefit going back to junior than he could of in the AHL.

Love that idea. Especially that it's a coach challenge and not officials review. Make it an embellishment penalty and if you get called for it a 2nd time in one game it becomes a double minor.

So, after yesterday's discussion of Ghost, his contract, and the idea of eventually trading him (possibly), Ek writes a Drouin blog saying we could be in play and that we value Sanheim over Ghost.
- arichardson22

It's possible Hextall believes Sanheim will be the better player two or three years from now, but there's no way Ek would know that.

At the very beginning, probably a lot.
Now, not so much.

Just my guesses.

I don't know how anyone knows since Sanheim hasn't played in the NHL yet. Whereas Ghost has already proven his impact. Same song from yesterday, don't trade someone before we know what we have. Then again, Drouin is a young LW who has proven he can play. He's very tempting, I mean imagine a 1st line of Drouin-Giroux-Voracek/Simmonds.

Scrap the reviews except on scoring plays.

Coach's challenge can beat it. No more reviewing off sides.

If it would get it done I would do Ghost and a 2nd or third round pick for Drouin in a second...

Add Drouin + 2nd overall pick to TK and the offense on this team looks a lot different over the next couple of years.

Would like to see the rule changed to allow 19 year olds with 3 full years of major Junior be AHL eligible and I'd even be fine with limiting it to one player per NHL team per season. It was certainly no help to Strome this year, and a guy like Patrick, if he doesn't make the NHL roster, would also be much better off in the AHL at this point in his development.

Sadly, the CHL would fight this tooth and nail.

It really does. Our top 9 would be: Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, TK, Drouin, Nolan/Nico, Couts, Schenn, Lindblom.

Not ready to trade Ghost. The Flyers would also be missing a PP QB because that is one area that Provorov did not excel in last season. I think Ghost will be among the best PP QBs in the NHL.

I don't see a rule change coming. The CHL is fighting to keep their best players on the roster. I could go along with "first rounders only" going AHL, but these are the players the CHL wants to hang onto. I'm afraid that the song remains the same.

I agree. Even in his sophomore slump he produced, and really seemed to come around again later. Ghost's presence on the PP is big. I don't wanna lose that.

I'd rather not give up Sanheim, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) our war chest is stacked with defensive prospects. We can probably afford to let him go because of how well Myers is progressing. Plus, let's not forget Morin is still around.

Hedman, DeAngelo, and Sanheim would be a formidable defensive core for years to come if you're the Lightning.

Sanheim and a 2. I'll swallow that bitter pill for a crack at Drouin
