Since I'm new I'll stake my flag so you all know where I stand. We need a center so with our first pick I say we take Villardi, Mittlestat or Glass in that order. On the Tanev front I'm leaning slightly in favour of a trade but I'd also be happy to see him stay. |

I loved the deadline moves but with all the previous mistakes I just feel a bone head deal coming
If its for the rights to Carl Neil or subban then no problem. But again another winger/ center who is undersized with average offense. - mauryballstein
I wouldn't stress about it even if they do want him the cost would be insignificant. |

Its not the age of the player nice try.. One was acquired for a vet and is on an entry level contract and the other costs us assets that we need to replace our defense or center positions.
Speaking of some people.. - mauryballstein
Yup, some are ignoring the opportunity costs associated with the trade. |

that kind of wishy washy reasoning is not tolerated here you must pick a side and fight and then change your mind on the top picks to make sure Bennings is seen a failure no matter who we get |

Can someone explain why we would want ryan spooner on this team. Another undersized middle 6 forward. If he is brought in for anything other than a fringe prospect benning and linden need to go. - mauryballstein
The only reasoning I could see is get him to give him enough minutes to score some points then flip him for picks/prospects at the TDL but even that doesn't make total sense as we'd have to pay to get him in the first place |

If could have got drouin for hansen then ya sure go ahead. We need to use our remaining trade chips and the next 3 drafts to fill holes at center and defense..
Unless we get the 2nd pick next year the svenchikov it is |

Thats what I was thinking too or if they will expose sutter was also my thinking, so they could rid themselves of that contract and wanted a stop gap for gaudette. |

Benning has had 3 years to bring in truculence and skill with grit. |

Yeah, acquiring Spooner makes no sense as long as Sutter is here |

This is definitely a consideration for Tanev that I haven't seen much of. If we hang on to him for another year maybe it pays even more when the next draft comes around |

I agree with the canadian kids but to not draft a guy like that is crazy his numbers are better than mathews at the same age or to say no to dahlin who might be the best dman prospect of all time.
Next draft also has 2 number 1 type Right shot canadians. Hopefully we end up bottom 4 next year |

I just think tampa would give the moon to get him while they are competitive. Time will tell. |

Not that you could guarantee management and the fans stick to a plan like this, but the opportunity of acquiring Drouin, signing him to a reasonable cap hit could be higher than the cost of acquiring him:
Tampa lacks bargaining power right now, they have zero cap space on a win-now team with too many core players to resign. Fresh of his first 50 point season, if signed to a moderate cap hit, say $5m/year, and have him accumulate several more 50+ point seasons could yield a much larger return than Tanev.
I know its highly unlikely anyone would think of the deal that way (due to careers being hinged on every move), but if you treat Drouin strictly as an investment, his value is rising and you could essentially flip him at or near his highest point as he reaches 25-27 years old. Fun to think of, but doubt it would play out that way... |

easy on the Dahin hype...people were saying similar things about Chyrchrun and Liljegren at one point to. Also, don't forget that super bust Kylington. Projecting D when they are 16 is very challenging. He looks great, but we shall see. |
