They get top notch training, food, shelter, medical, and if they win big races they basically do nothing but eat, sleep and try to impregnate female horses the rest of their lives.

I know, that's what all that inbreeding does, Thoroughbreds are even more like China dolls than Sammy Watkins. They're incredible athletes, but have the durability of a wet tissue. You breathe on them wrong and their legs snap.

No, there was a serious crack down after Eight Bells won the Kentucky Oaks and snapped her forelegs doing so. The industry was hit hard with doping investigations and that crap doesn't go on anymore thank goodness. The horses really are treated very well now.

They're still allowed to give them steroids. Maybe not as much as they used to, but I was reading about it a few years ago, and it wasn't some PETA propaganda piece or anything either. I honestly think it was ESPN or something like that.

It doesn't really matter though, it's more the breed than the drugs that cause that poop.

The difference in the amount and type of steroids given is night and day now. Eight Bells died when her chest muscles were so large due to steroids that her legs couldn't literally keep up with them and her legs folded under and snapped like twigs. Those days are finally over with.

The rules changed even when it comes to precautionary scratches like in Barbaro's case after the Preakness.

Seriously, the whip does nothing to the horse, it does not hurt in the slightest. It's a training cue that tells the horse that the race is almost over and to push until the jockey gives the signal to quit.

You realize the horse is 1,000 lbs of soild muscle right? A 90lb guy hitting them with a leather crop is nothing to them. The impact doesn't make them run faster. Normally the jockeys hold the horse back because they won't make it if they just go out there and run, much like you wouldn't be able to sprint for 500 yards. When they hit them it's just telling them "ok, you can run now."

You are not getting it I'm talking about the race plus other effects as in training the horse making them go through all that punishment... But hey they get all that food and water they need

I don't want to see any animal abused, and anyone who does I hope gets their balls ripped off. But, the facts are that the horse racing industry was exposed about ten years back and it cost them dearly. Things have changed, the horses are treated very well now, and anyone who abuses a animal gets banned for 10 years to life. Those are the facts.

There's horse races going on every week do you think they're going to track every single person in the world? Nope

There are some very nice owners out there that treat their horses with respect but there are some garbage out there even in your heart you know they're still out there playing the system
