I'm going to go out on a limb here and say JV now gets it and knows what it takes to stay in the NHL. If he stayed up the whole season and put up 30 points. I would call that a success.

As for Shatty it would help our D depth & PP greatly.
I've harped over n over that the PP is a key component at any stage of this rebuild.

I had him penciled in, before Green was hired, which only improved his odds IMO.

Mainly because the chances of him becoming a future core player are slim now. It'll be nice if he can become a nice role player, but role players don't mean poop if you don't have a good core.

They are probably transitioning rookies or unestablished higher potential players (Boucher, Rodin, Guance?) for the 4th line. Can see DD on the trade or waiver block when healthy. Perhaps use Sutter as an anchor vet on 4th instead. Granlund could anchor 3C or LE wing alternative as vet presence on 3rd line. That leaves one spot for Sedins and Bo.

Find chemistry first and then make them defensively responsible. Trial by fire they need to learn that first at the NHL level.
