I think it is going to be harder than everyone thinks in trying to trade for a defenseman this season. It's been mentioned that due to the expansion draft, there will be many teams more willing to trade a dman because they have too many to protect, but it still seems that there​ are still more teams looking to upgrade their defense. Nearly every site I go to that lists team needs have more than half of them looking for top defenseman. That being said I would still like to try to trade for one, but would also like to try to keep our 1st rounder and draft one of the top guys. We need to keep rebuilding our stockpile and drafting defenseman, because they take longer to develop and are harder to trade for good ones.

Teams aren't going to trade their "top" defenseman...
they're going to trade their #3 or #4
For us, that's helpful bc that would be #2 on our team
Is it an upgrade for the other teams looking for defense though?
Not only will they be giving up assets to get a 2nd pair defenseman...
they'll also potentially lose a guy they'd have protected otherwise
For example:
Edmonton has to protect Sekera
They'll also protect Larson & Klefbom
So are they gonna trade for Fowler?
He'd help their defense...
but they'd end up leaving Klefbom exposed & lose him

So yeah... many teams need defensive help
But there aren't a lot of teams who have open slots like we do
We trade for Fowler (or whoever)...
and we expose Bogosian
No big deal to us if he gets taken
Heck... many on here want Vegas to take him!

100% agreed, understandable though as to why people are really down on him. I think he will have a bounce back year, 20 goals 15 assists. I believe, which i know as a sabres fan that's just setting myself up for disappointment
