NBC announcers wouldn't shut up about how amazing the Pens are when they played the Caps...we get it...the Pens are good for ratings and both of you are secretly gay for Crosby. There are two teams on the ice tho bro..
Really bummed by the caps...you wonder if they blow it up now. Rooting for the Preds and no one else - Beezer33
4 important UFAs (Williams, Alzner, Shattenkirk, Oshie) are pretty much guaranteed gone, plus i believe they have 7 RFAs. Their general manager said last year that this would be the second year of a two-year window. Change is coming no matter what. I think they'll take 1-2 years of not buying at the deadline, try to bring along some young guys, and go for it again in '19 for one last go with OV. If I were them, i would trade Backstrom now and do a mini tank year, but keep OV

Ovechkin isn't going anywhere unless he demands to be traded. He's the face of their franchise and also the reason that building is full every night.

Disagree.
He is 'a' reason, these days. But the team is built to well to be a one man show any longer, and Ovechkin has begun to realize it himself, altering his play to that reality, as much as the fans have.

I think between the Olympics and his team never advancing in the playoffs the KHL is a real possibility. Long shot? Yes. But i think it may be more of a thought.

How the team is built is irrelevant.
The Penguins are built that way as well. However, take Sidney Crosby off that team, and the team's marketability takes a massive hit. The same still goes for Ovechkin. He's not going anywhere unless he wants to.

Yeah I agree. I think trading Backstrom could be a smart move though. By the time their team is stacked enough to make another serious go of it, he won't be himself anymore (even at 2 years from now). A soft change up and reset could be for the best
