According to Todd Cordell, the Caps out chanced the Pens by 81 over the entire series
Luck is a crazy thing in sports - sbroads24
I'm not sure if you watched the game last night..but the Caps had (in my opinion) at least 8 GOLDEN opportunities to put the puck in the net. They either (frank)in goofed it or tried to make that extra pass to set up a pretty goal. I really don't like the Pens...but they deserved to win that game a hell of a lot more than the Caps. |

Ovechkin isn't going anywhere unless he demands to be traded. He's the face of their franchise and also the reason that building is full every night. - buffalofan19
I know hes 31 but i think it would take a 1st overall pick to pry him out of Washington. |

4 important UFAs (Williams, Alzner, Shattenkirk, Oshie) are pretty much guaranteed gone, plus i believe they have 7 RFAs. Their general manager said last year that this would be the second year of a two-year window. Change is coming no matter what. I think they'll take 1-2 years of not buying at the deadline, try to bring along some young guys, and go for it again in '19 for one last go with OV. If I were them, i would trade Backstrom now and do a mini tank year, but keep OV - jcragcrumple
I don't want any of the above with the exception of Williams on the cheap to a short term deal |

They do this waaaaayy too much.
But at times they were just flat out unlucky. They were hands down the better team all series |

For once the Sabres make the obvious pick when it comes to staff. Good job getting it done. |

I like what they're doing with the GM positions with respect to both teams. They're bringing in younger guys to set up a longer-term vision. I expect that Botterill won't make nearly as many splashy moves as Murray did. It'll probably be a slow and steady approach, hopefully with casting off dead weight as the top priority.

Part of the reason everyone worshiped Murray in the beginning was that he was that exact opposite of Darcy. Very refreshing but bordering on reckless. I think Botteril is somewhere in the middle of those two. |

Yeah Murray made big moves, now we need Botterill to make the right moves to set this team up for the next five years. That's really his forte, too, as a cap guy. I'm excited. If he can get rid of a couple of the well-known bad contracts to let some young guys play and sign a couple of smart vet contracts, he could look really good, really soon |

Rutherford, "I got a call from their president, I'm not exactly sure when it was, but certainly within the last month and shortly after the
change was made in Buffalo."

I feel like this will be the harder decision. Any new coach is gonna be a gamble. I wanted Julian the minute he became available. Would be nice to have a coach that commands respect and has a strong voice in the room. |
