we may need to keep some undesirable contracts this season as they may only be able to shed one - Michael Pachla
I'm hoping for two: Moulson and Bogo. If it's only one, but it doesn't cost an arm and a leg I'll be pleased.
Who do you think has the best chance of going? I was thinking Ennis honestly. |

Bold is true, should have thought of that.
I'm withholding judgment on Bogo until he gets his new coach. He was sheltered in WPG but had better numbers...we'll see if a different prospective works. Remember his first game as a Sabre when he had like 13 hits in the game? Boy I don't, but I'd like to. - RhinoFan
Look...
I'm simply saying that if we want Gorges gone,
and can't get another team to trade for him,
there's a very reasonable option of buying him out |

Do we need to make another one of those "member berry" moments to see who didn't like this hire and who liked it?
Jochfr - Indifferent
Beezer33 - Botterill looking even better than Murray
Sabres 89 - Fire him already Stinks and has does nothing (Sarcasm) (he actually likes the hire)
Deuce81 - very appealing
BeadyEyedDouche - likes the Botteril hire, hates racism
boos--likes his creds yet cautiously optimistic
Stripes - is on board with the hire (but can't ref for sh!t)
ChicmjBuffalo - Want's us to know that JBot was already a GM in the AHL
feet - withholding judgment for further review and wears cornrows to work
burner087 - Likes his looks (Not that there is anything wrong with that)
Clown - is already drunk this morning but thinks the hiring is refreshing
Sabresfan-365 - Likes the hire but will dish out backhanded compliments until he's fired
Buff 19 - Is too lazy to say yes or no to liking the hire... Will be optimistic until Botty #5 (frank)s up a trade or extension
gcomella34 - Is wrapped in caution tape so I assumed he just murdered a prostitute
Irish - I like Botterill hire! (something, something Housley)
Sbroads24- Botterill is the tits (Colin White also agrees)
SDSabre - Happy to be here with the exception of reading everyone's filth
ImThatGuy - Has CTE
rover16 - Hates us all
GooseHonker - Likes what he has to say
Khmylev- Beautiful baby! bringing beer, buying brisket, bye-bye boring. balls. (I believe this means yes he likes the hire?)
SabreWest - Has two thumbs up somewhere unmentionable
It's 2017, we don't judge...
22sabresQ - Likes the hire and the Q in his name is confusing me
Jfitz - Likes the hire... And to this day he remains the most knowledgeable poster on this site
Matthews_Auston - Dirty crackhead leaf fan... He likes the hire too - jochfr

i realize but other teams will be looking for these guys too. and beyond that you have to find the right fit. You mentioned six names there, i see 3 names that could really fit in and help us right away one of whom (hamonic) probably wont be available at a price we like. - Sabresfan-365
But how many other teams have open slots?
For example...
Arizona will want to upgrade their defense I'd assume
They have to protect Goligoski(NMC) & will surely protect OEL
So...
would Manson or Vatanen be an upgrade over Connor Murphy?
Yeah sure
But then they'll lose Murphy in the expansion draft
Plus they'll lose whatever they gave up in the trade
If they were bringing in Lindholm, then maybe it makes sense
But teams aren't gonna lose their #3 to expansion so they can bring in a better version #3 type
Just wouldn't be worth it for many teams
They don't have the open slots like we do |

Totally agree. Sorry if last response was confusing, rereading it wasn't put well. I didn't think of the buyout option for him. That would be the best course, you're right. |

why wouldnt they? Murphy's awful
id give up our #3, whoever that is. You wouldnt move mccabe if it got you someone better? You wouldn't move risto if it gave you a guy like doughty or someone?

Decent hire, he'll do.
Bottering Ram has a lot of work to do. Let's see how it pans out for him.
The HC decision will be huge.
Cautious optimism.
Cheers! |

I'm cautiously optimistic for sure. Really like that he's saying we have to be way more involved (the Sabres level mgmt) with Rochester. Like that he said he wants to build a winner at two levels.
Though, not too many hires are going to come in and say I plan on gutting the farm system to bring NHL guys in, we don't give a crap about the AHL level.
Which is kind of how I felt the last mgmt team was, though I could be wrong. - gcomella34
The last mgmt team was brought in because Pegula wanted to win now and Murray was tasked with just that. When that wasn't transpiring like he wanted it to ........ TP fired everyone and then brought in a guy who said and acted about as opposite as could be. We'll see how it plays out but I think it's gonna be reallt hard to win now with the Sabres and rebuild Rochester at the same time. It's never happened here before. I think it's one or the other. |

I don't think he's horrible...
but whatever
My point is that we only need to protect 2 guys
So we have an open slot
Many teams do not though,
So it doesn't make sense to give up assets to get a #3 and then lose your previous #3 in the expansion draft
Thus, there will be more sellers than buyers
And we are in good shape to take advantage
If u don't like my previous example...
how about Edmonton?
Trade say RNH for a defenseman (Brodin?)
So they protect Sekera(NMC), Larson & Brodin
But now they lose Klefbom...
So essentially, they'd trade RNH + Klefbom for a defenseman
Unless it's a really good defenseman,
That just wouldn't make sense for them to do |

I like the point that JB already has GM experience. It may have been in the AHL, but he was the one in charge of the Baby Penguins. I am encouraged by the fact that he wants to utilize that model he with Rochester.
What has happened here, GMTM in charge of both clubs, obviously hasn't worked so far. Rochester's record says a lot about this.
I like that he said that winning is a part of development. Because it is.
If the younger players don't know what it means to win before they get here, they are just happy to be here and won't put forth the extra effort needed to get to that next level. I think this is one of those ideas that Eichel was pissed about towards the end of the year last year.
Now, JB will have a lot to do in the coming weeks, but I think one of the more important ones will be the repairing of the relationships between the club and some of the players...good luck JB. I am rooting for you.
BTW, has anyone heard of any updates about Okposo? - ChicmjBuffalo
Pretty sure Murray was GM of Binghamton for the Sens. Hence why he loves Lehner, and was linked to Richardson. IJS. |

not saying he wont find someone to trade with or that we dont have that advantage cause we do just that hes probably tempering expectations as a cap guy hes gunna be looking for good value if he cant find it no sense in rushing it or forcing a deal.
He may zero in on manson and if the price is too high? should he go and overpay for a 3rd pairing guy? maybe he can only make mini moves and prepare himself to make the big ones next off season with more assets?

Sooo apparently Reinhardt missed a bunch closed practices and everyone was pissed at him, supposedly he missed a lot of those practices because he was taking college classes, he just graduated a couple days. Not saying it's 100% accurate but hopefully his mind is clear and he is totally focused on hockey this season. |
