I want the Pens to sign Oshie in the offseason if we can get TJ Brodie or Hamiton from Calgary in case we trade Murray to them. - Barnaby36
I'm aware. I'd put up with Buffalo for any foreseeable future for a couple million dollars. |

Nice write up on Botterill for us Sabres fans. Based on what your column and what others are saying, it seems like Pegula finally made a good move with regards to his sports franchises. It sure would be great for Pittsburgh and Buffalo to have a good rivalry but for that to happen, the Sabres need to become a good team - on a consistent basis.
Also, to all of you Pens fans, good luck against the Sens. Hope you beat them. - SabreWest
If the Sabres get good in the next 2-3 seasons we will see the original Winter Classic rematch and it'll be one hell of a showdown.
I used to like the Sabres as like a 3rd team to watch and cheer for when the Pens and Wild weren't playing. Then they got rid of Vanek and I was salty. Then they hired Dan Bylsma and I was out right away. haha |

They need to fix that defense. Honestly.. Buffalo could be a good fit for Shattenkirk (if he's chasing money and not a cup.) Who knows how they are going to get rid of Bogosian lol I can't believe he makes 5.1 million a season. Holy (frank). But if they could figure out a way to lure Shattenkirk there and find someone to be his Dumolin.. and push Risto to the 2nd pairing... I think you could see Risto being more effective and not bleeding shot attempts like he is right now. |

They have a few questionable contracts IMO. How does anyone think for a second that Moulson is worth 5 mil? Maybe if you're trying to reach the cap floor and you give it to him for 1 year. |

Bogosian contract makes sense the same way Duncan Keith's contract makes sense. Admittedly not a perfect comparison as Keith had proven more but got huge term. Bogosian early in his NHL career was .5 ppg and Calder trophy type as rookie. They locked him up early with term. Risky bet but if he continued to improve was a true number 1d type. With bogosian you were better he would continue to improve. With Keith you were better he could stay good for a reasonable amount of the 13 year term. Keith easily could have taken a career declining injury or started partying after getting his entire career earnings guaranteed. Then we would ask why is Keith so over paid and forever instead of considering it a great value. Taking term risks can turn into a genius move or idiocy.
PK subban is the reason you lock a guy up instead of bridging him. Subban got a bridge and when he continued to improve got $9 million a year. |

As a franchise, obviously the loss of Botterill is tough when you have an old but gold fossil like Rutherford. However, it always is a sign of a well-run franchise when other teams are trying to pry away your management and coaching to emulate your team's culture. I remember this happening with the patriots a lot, though the coaching really hasn't worked out that well (billy O'Brien aside)

We need to get Kessel going.
Pens in 6! - Barnaby36
Kessel was starting to piss me off on the pp in games 5,6, he was bury himsel in the corner literally taking away any angle he had to shoot or pass through the seem. Gm 7 was better he started to get to the top of the circle n shoot. Lets get em tomorrow night phil |

I'm happy for the man. It's a promotion and big raise for him and his family. I was only ever in Buffalo once and I was young so not gong to comment on living location but from a professional standpoint he's kinda hit the big time. He's now the GM of a major sports franchise.
He obviously was a piece in a massive machine that is the Pens success (and failures) the past 10 years but just how big of piece is impossible to gauge. My general feeling is his departure won't effect the Penguins franchise all that much moving forward. |

I thought him and Malkin started looking close to dominant together in game 7 the other night. Phil had a handful of grade A chances in that game. One time the stick broke on him as well. |

Great insight from Guentz, definitely rooting for him even more now after this. The backstory of him and Kessel is amazing

He had the injury bug early. Should have been a red flag. But he was showing .5 ppg early in his career with a physical frame he was willing to use. I think they overpaid some in light of the injury risks but giving him the deal early had some upside. |

Awesome stuff. I love this team so much because they love each other so much, and they always remember it's supposed to be fun. Honestly, it's what the Capitals are missing - love and fun. |

That's awesome! I followed up and read the Mike Lange article.....really good too! I didn't realize Jagr gave him the "He smoked him like a bad cigar" catch phrase. That's tremendous. Jags worked on that for 3 months. |

Yeah they both are good. I just love how Guentzy was Kessel's stick boy when he was at Minnesota. Now to be playing on the same team as him in the pros, just crazy |

They traded for him while he was mediocre on the Jets after signing his absurd contract. The Sabres did not lock him up early, they made a really bad trade for him. |
