I see Garth got a job over at USA Today.

Seriously, does no one (frank)ing proofread anymore?

John "Eway", "Pro Football of Fame".

And that's just the first sentence.

Would anyone be willing to take Pominville back if it meant getting a Minny defenseman at a cheaper price?

I think it's worth considering
Although he's got 2years left at a 5.6mil cap hit

That obviously sucks,
but it could be manageable if it gets us back the right defenseman at a discounted price

If we can get Dumba or Brodin without having to give up #8 or Reinhart
Then we could potentially get another top4 defenseman for #8 (Ekholm?)

Then maybe our defense looks something like:

Ekholm-Ristolainen
McCabe-Dumba
Antipin-Bogosian
Falk

And we'd still have Guhle coming!
When Bogosian gets hurt, Guhle can fill in on the 3rd pair

Now that's a defense I can get behind

what are you giving up to get pommer and a d man? i think thats the biggest factor.. if you want a young potentail top 4 d you have to give even if it means you are taking pommer.. you are still looking at somethign decent.. would Kane get it done if GMJB doesn't really like him anyway??

Seems like it might be finally coming together, maybe the Sabres will fare just as well.
- SABRES 89

I think they're a bigger challenge, because you basically have to build 2 teams, Buf and Roch. You need good leadership here and there and coaches all on the same page to make this thing work. Also there is a lot of bad contracts/dead weight on the Sabres team. They need to get rid of those players if they really want to turn this thing around.

I really like the hire in Botterill, lots of experience in various capacities, smart and young...seems perfect for them. I do think he will bring in coaches who can relate to and provide the proper leadership for the players to get behind. From comments he made, he is obviously aware of the locker room issues...so he isn't going in blind.
Will be fun to watch.

I have no problem bringing pommer back

but I doubt they can move them all, and bots might be a fan of moulson or ennis

Evander would have to be in that deal to even have Minnesota listen to your offer. but you would think they wouldn't give up Dumba/Brodin with Jason for just Kane. I believe the 28 goals and a year on his contract is something a lot of teams would be interested in acquiring.

would you trade Kane to Vancouver if we could get someone like Christopher Tanev +?

All those need to go. Probably stuck with them all but Ennis. I think he's the second coming of Tim Connolly.

i saw your cap friendly suggestion. if thats all we have to give up, sure. im not a pominville fan, in the least, but he would help on the pk, and hes only got 2 more years left so buying him out after next year wouldnt be a killer either.

I could see Ennis putting up 20 + 20 on the second line and first PP for Vegas. he could provide pretty good value on a team that doesn't stick him on the 3rd/4th line. Most of our forwards had a down year last year. I could see vegas take a shot on a 4 time 20 goal guy with a lot of speed, mostly because he'll make a nice stop-gap second line guy while their draft picks develop.

Also, on Ennis: 4.5 is only a slightly bad contract if he can get back to even 40 points. I think the Sabres need to incentivize either Bogo or Moulson's contract. At least Ennis has speed. If you can lose Moulson instead of Ennis without giving up more than - idk, maybe a third rounder - then I would move Moulson instead.

True, but with a north/south coach, i see ROR getting back to 65, and Eichel with 80+ if he stays healthy. If Ennis can play on the third line and second PP and get 20 + 20 if he's allowed to dangle, we're better off keeping him and paying vegas to take Moulson instead IMO

We don't have to move them all to make it work
Here's what I did on CapFriendly & still had around 7mil in Cap space
(It's actually over 9mil in space if u remove Guhle, Rodrigues & Nylander)
I shipped Moulson to Vegas & bought out Gorges

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/61903

I've got Ennis playing where he should be able to start scoring again,
So we should be able to move him for a decent return if he can regain form

Bogo we are probably stuck with unless he can stay healthy somehow

bogo IMO is the worst contract

ennis 2 years at 4.6, if healthy he can produce 50 point seasons
moulson 2 years at 5, if they keep him on pp, and find a way to use him on 3rd line, he is still a 20 goal player if given minutes and under rated for his defensive play
bogo 3 years at 5 plus per

Yeah... he's not all that great anymore
But if it gets us Brodin or Dumba without having to give up Sam or #8,
then I'd do it in a heartbeat

Then we can use #8 to get another good defenseman

And that would put us in great shape IMO

My problem with Moulson is that any line you stick him on is going to flounder 5-on-5. His defensive play is ok, probably because he spends so much time in the defensive zone. Bogo's contract is ridiculous but he can still be useful. I would rather have Bogo and Ennis because they're at least faster than Moulson and we need to get faster, not slower. One last thing on Ennis/Carrier and who to protect: I still think Ennis has a better chance of hitting 20 goals again than Carrier ever hitting 20. That said, if the choices for Vegas are Bogo, Moulson, Carrier and Falk, They'll take Carrier or Falk unless incentivized

its actually the opposite. Moulson has been okay 5v5, at least possession wise. you can bury him on the fourth line at a few minutes a night, he doesnt hurt you.

Even at reduced minutes, Bogosian may still be an anchor. You can maybe change his usage and hope someone offers a trade mid season but id rather they just buy him out.

moulson might be the most under rated sabre from the fan base
