If my little experiment have told me anything, it's that both fanbase have not really given up on their player considering they both think they are worth more than the results they had last season. - Scabeh
What you did was similar to me asking Oilers fans and Leafs fans what they thought of a Rielly for RNH deal. (I proposed this before we knew Nylander could play and we had not won the draft lottery.)
Both fanbases disliked the idea, which probably means it was not a bad suggestion.
Now, in hindsight, Rielly had a HORRIBLE year last year but there is no way in hell I would even entertain Rielly for RNH.
I guess the lesson is that it is really risky to trade young players. The Habs, with the younger player, are assuming more risk. Hold on to Galchenyuk.
Oh, and trades are hard.

The mentionned price is silly, but Duchene has had very good offensive seasons over the last few years.
I feel like you gotta discount last year since everything and everyone on the Avs pretty much had career lows.
Imo, Duchene is the more proven commodity, while Galchenyuk is a question mark that could very well become better than Duchene. - Scabeh
Habs need both. A mature and hard working CHucky + a Matt Duchene kind of player

I'd hate to see our bumbling GM trade away our assets (the few we actually have) at an all-time low and from a position of weakness. Now that the on-ice product has showed his hand, everyone knows the Habs can't develop and we need scoring/centreman.
Pretty hard to make fair deals, or steal one from this position. Especially when the cupboards are bare.
I expect a full on, job-saving panic move this summer, if he actually does something. The heat is on, and MB doesn't like to be questioned on anything. He's been slowly backing himself into a corner. |

Yes, and they also need Sergachev-level prospects.
I am not sure there is any kind of fit between the Habs and Avs for Duchene. |

Honest question... should he be fired at this point. If for no other reason than to let a new GM start without being tied to previous decisions.

Well this is quite debatable over the last 2 years;
Duchene has 48G, 52A for 100PTS in 153GP with -42 as opposed to
47G, 53A and 100PTS in 143 GP and -13 for Galchenyuk while having significantly less ice time. |

Finishing first in the Atlantic and having just "upgraded" our coaching situation will give Bergevin some time.
But it simply cannot be the same story year after year where the Habs lack the offensive power to compete for the cup and get eliminated early in the playoffs.
It was the problem when Bergevin was hired, it still is today. |

Very good point.
This being said, both players are capable of much more than these numbers.
Difference is, Duchene had already done it before, while Galchenyuk hasn't.
Which is why I consider Duchene the more proven commodity of the two. |

If the plan is to trade Chucky, you better hope Bergy's looking at names like Tavares... else, you just keep Chucky and his 60 points per season he might end up giving to the club in the next years. |

Well i had no idea he just signed a new 5 year deal as Fido said?? That really sucks.
Unfortunately, it's easier said than done? We're at a point where we need to win NOW but don't have a true cup contender with this group. And we don't have prospects. So what do you do?
Keep the current GM and sell off the farm for older players to just plug holes and not utilize the roster properly and make a feeble attempt at a cup run?
Or fire the GM and have a scorched earth policy and rebuild?
It all depends on if this organisation is serious about winning and put the proper people in charge? It's the same culture from Lefebvre to Timmons, to MB, to Molson.
I'd love to see MB gone. And bring in the most qualified regardless of language.
This is purgatory. |

Tavares becomes a UFA in a year.....
Would be quite the "all in" scenario. |

I'm just not to sure about Duchene, he can be just as streaky as Galchenyuk. And for the sake of the developement pf #27, coaching staff/management really need to stop to yo-yo him. Besides, the asking price for Duchene is just ridiculous. The package of Galchenyuk, Sergachev and our 1st should be given for a guy like Mckinnon or Tavares, not Duchene IMO. |

This is what i thought.
It would be another lateral and eventually diminishing move.
We need to keep Chucky and actually develop players in all aspects instead of the GM blaming the players and absolving management of any wrong-doings. |

Yeah, hopefully a trade for Tavares would include a contract extension...but hey Bergy has done some mind boggling moves during his tenure so who knows. |

Well that asking price was given by an Avs fan who obviously values Duchene way too much or Galchenyuk way too low....
I wouldn't consider it reasonable. |

Hey, if a trade brings Tavares to Montreal and we manage to resign him long term, it would be hard not to like it.
But we're still in fantasy land until it becomes clear the Isles can't resign him. |

Avs are a worse team, but then again they also, clearly, require less commitment to defense than the Habs have.
Those numbers are much closer than I would have guessed.
