I always thought an 8yr./$60M contract would be beneficial to all parties
- Michael Pachla

I dont think he signs that long.

20 mil over 3 years gives him a big raise, gives the sabres some flexibility and keeps eichel in line for a 2nd big raise assuming any sort of playoff success or personal hardware over that 3 year period.

This, one good season does not make you a 9million dollar player. Didn't Edmonton do this with eberle, hall and rnh? Signed them all to 6 million dollar deals right out of their elcs
- Sabres1523

The difference here is that Edmonton is winning with this combination unlike the prior 3. It helps having a guy like McDavid as well.

Housley's work in the 2013 World Junior tournament was nothing short of phenomenal, and he seems to be coaching the Predators defense the same way he played, which is great. The question is: would he have the horses to do that here? Right now, the answer is no.

It would definitely help to restore some confidence to our D-Men. Something that Bylsma couldn't convey or orchestrate in his scheme.

I think Housley would bring the best out of Risto and McCabe and help bring along Antipin (if he signs) and other young D-Men (Guhle)

Girgensons will be our 3/4C or play RW with Staal.

i think with the right coach and on the 3rd line Girgs could be a very good role player.. as long as he doesn't demand big money i would prefer buffalo to keep him and put him on the third line.

Fair.

I think there's a solid chance we try and poach Adam Lowry for that role from the Jets anyway, given their issues with the expansion draft.

There are a few upgrades available in FA though. Its an awkward one because if you envision the team competing for a spot next year, getting the 3c/4c slots set at good value in the off season keeps you from having to overpay with a 1st/2nd at the deadline.

All these players want as much as they can get in their first contract. McDavid, Eichel, Matthews will be no exception.

Was listening to WGR the other day, and they were talking about the Mcdavid and Eichel extension most likely to take place this summer. They then went on to say the Drasiatl (sp) would be getting around 8-9 million on an extension this summer. That seems absolutely insane number for him. Yes he was awesome this year but 8-9 mill, that's Malkin and Crosby type money, not sure hes there yet (not to say he wont be soon).
Thoughts?

That's also only 500k or 1.5 mil more than ROR, who is 5 years older and less productive.

Oil already have their #1 d locked up at a great cap hit.

Won't hurt them

so how does UFA to be making 5+ mil help that? They take on more cap in this deal.

Thin? Kane would be on the third line:

they'll actually have a few choices for those roles...skunk could be put into a 3c role...then there's Larsson who was there last season....evan Rodrigues looks like he may be able to play 3c as well and either he or gus could hold down the 4c role...no real need to go outside the organization for that this season
