on what we hope to be a good 5v5 team someday, okposo brings far more to the table.

Kane is all about volume. once this team has the depth and a functioning blueline that can generate chances too his volume play will hurt us more than help us.

- Sabresfan-365

With his 30th birthday coming at the end of next season, I hope that "someday" comes pretty soon. I fear his most productive years in the league will have been with Tavares. I don't anticipate a big point surge in years 11,12,13,and 14 from Kyle, who's health has to be considered a question mark.

I think you need both if you want to be good

but that's just me

- homiedclown

total volume has to come as a team. best 5v5 teams, the ones that generate a high volume of shots total, are getting it from everywhere and almost every 5 man unit, not just one guy lobbing shots high and wide from the top of the circle.

This would be a different if we had an established defence making okay money. At that point you could say most of the lineup is set and that hes a luxury you can afford, we're not there yet and his contract is up soon

Kane got 25 goals even strength last year playing 70 games

when was the last time a sabre did that?

vanek in 06-07 with 28?

if this was easy to find, we wouldn't have gone 10 seasons w/o it happening

- homiedclown

Kane also has just 30 total assists over 2 seasons here.

Yes, he scored 5 on 5 goals which is great, it's also just one thing

Still waiting to find what value you think the sabs should receive.

And this is what the other teams' GMs will say when Botts tries to get a top 4 Dman for Kane, right?

you mean for kane in a trade? no idea. youd think itd good but homie mentioned the kings interest at the deadline and that was basically a "lets low ball them and see if they just want to get rid of him" offer.

I have no idea. He's obviously generated at least some interest. I would hope he can land at least a decent defense prospect

I don't see a "must have" player in Evander Kane.

Not enough to give him a big deal.

How many "must have" players are on the Sabres? One? Two maybe?

Best news I've heard all day. I hope he is as touted. I didn't see any of the World's until today.

They've already decided ROR, Okposo, and Risto are.

They will make Eichel one. Maybe Sam.

I don't see them giving Kane a long term deal, mainly because they already have guys locked up

Exactly.

I'd love to have him if he was already here long term, and our defense was in tact.

I've thought of this idea

Vegas selects a D man that's exposed (a decent one) and then trades him to Buffalo for Kane, and signs Kane long term

- sbroads24

I don't think they can do that. Or maybe it's the UFA thing if they sign a guy off a team they have to hold him for a year. To prevent the really underhanded poop.

Even after the season he had(bunch of 5v5 goals and no off ice stuff) there's no way we'd get full value for him. Even more so because he's UFA after this year. I would rather take less at the deadline if you can't work out a long term deal than take a little more now, because you're still not getting enough now. IF we could get full value that would be a different story.

I think it's until Jan 1st, but I believe that only applies to the team that they took him from.

It's to prevent Vegas colluding with another team to get a player right back after having him picked

Look, the NHL is better than our Govt. in that regard

Do u have a link for that?
Bc everything I've seen suggests that they can trade guys they pick in the expansion draft
I haven't seen any kind of limits on when they could do so

it sounds nuts but you might get more value trying to flip him to a team as a rental once teams get desperate/hurt than you would this summer. especially if you retained some for a cap team.

I read it recently but honestly don't remember where. I could be wrong.

Actually Tanner suggested that in one of his blogs and a bunch people corrected him and said there were rules against it.

Also because unless they find two very team friendly contracts they're going to have to dedicated a solid chunk of cap space to addressing the blue line.

Wouldn't be the offseason if we weren't already all for dumping Kyle Okposo one year into his deal

Seems everything is on the table and off with the new GM. wonder if he takes our notes on here into his game plan.
