It’s a bare-bones rig that comes with a ladder-style frame, Eaton selectable locker in the rear, solid axles, a simple two-speed transfer case, and, if you want, a manual transmission. An inline 4-cylinder motor makes a perfectly reasonable 150 hp. It comes with a 10-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty too, which is enticing, assuming the company is around for those ten years. MSRP is a refreshing $26,405.

Inside it looks like, well, a car from 2005, just with a touchscreen. Big chunky buttons, simple interfaces, things where you want and expect them. Perfect. Oh, and leather is standard, as are heated seats.

It's OK. Probably fun to "drove it like you stole it," but too much for the sedate-driving-with-some-spirited-moments habit. It's a foregone conclusion that they'll release STi versions that will probably make me shake my head again when I see the recommended maintenance schedule.

i have an issue with the rear fenders.

i love that they're bulging like that but i feel like they need to be higher. they look awkward to me where they are.

Looked at some picks and I sorta see what you mean. But from one angle it doesn't look so bad (at least with the color):



But from this angle (and color):





I wonder how good/bad it'll look in the flesh...

Regardless, how much has it digressed from the Impreza? The few 2022 Impreza butt pics I looked at looked better than the ones above. And I think I'm now at the age where I want a sleeper. Have all the internals of the WRX but with it being indistinguishable from something like the Impreza in any way save for some very minute badging.
