Come to think of it, why is that a feature of pretty much only vans? I would think it would also maybe be useful on SUVs, especially on the big ones with 3 rows. A big enough sliding door and maybe the third row can get out without having to move the second row seats. I can't see it being a rigidity issue. If they can make it rigid enough on a van, they can do it on an SUV. Especially ones that aren't meant for heavy duty off-roading.

i meant the way cars are disappearing in favor of SUVs. GM and ford don't even offer any of their regular cars in america anymore. there's no more fusion or impala or malibu or anything and there were always less coupes than sedans, so now how many coupes can be left to choose from?

there used to be honda preludes and mazda rx-7s and stuff.

YOu're not counting compact coupes like the Civic (although it's really not all that compact anymore). Then there's the mid/full-sized US models like the Mustangs and Camaros and Challengers. There's gotta be more, but this comes off the top of my head. Then there are the luxury marques like BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus still selling them for MY 2021. And many of these still come in convertible form.
