To seriously answer your question. What's a GM/AGM's job right now as a playoff team? To get his team ready for next year, draft, looking at FAs, dealing with expansion. And if you know you're going to be leaving for another team what's the difference if it's now, or in 6 weeks(from hire date)?
I think had expansion not been this year we'd have gone until the end of the Pens run, but with the time crunch and so much to accomplish in so little a time it was necessary to be a bit unorthodox, and Pittsburgh let him go too, so it's not like he stole away in the middle of the night like Art Modell. - Wetbandit1
I just think that a guy that helped put together this team would be riding the highs & lows with them in the trenches, not sitting behind another organisations head office desk looking at what needs to be done - that's just me.
I understand it's his team now & he needs to get right into it though.
If we promise Petersen NHL time this year, does that get him to sign?
I will be very angry if we lose him. - Deuce81
I think you have to make sure you get him signed. If that means trading Lehner then that might be the move. We can't pay a lot for a goalie in Lehner that cant stop a any shootout shots. Nor do I want to pay a lot for a goalie at all, so no Fleury for me (even though he is a great goalie), only way I consider is if Pitt holds some salary back to get him around $4 mil. But he only has 1 year left on his deal anyway, fyi.
Peterson is still around for now but I think we are in a better spot than before with Murray due not being as tied to Lehner
What do you guys think of trading for Landeskog? Had a down year like the rest of their team but he might fill the shoes of a LW if Kane is traded for a dman. Even if Kane isnt traded I would like to see them go after him if they dont think Bailey or Baptiste can fill that spot just yet

I agree, I don't hate Lehner but I don't want to commit big money to him, as I believe you can find comparable production without overpaying. Petersen is high potential, low-cost.
I like Landeskog, but it just depends on the price. It will be interesting to see if Botterill wants to completely reshuffle the dressing room or if he thinks subtracting one or two problem players will help.

He would be one that has high character and could play with Jack or ROR easily. Not sure how they would feel about him on their wing but having Kane and Landeskog as top two LW, trade #8 for a (name a dman) and youre in business.
I would think we could get Landy for next years 1st and a prospect

Personally, I would trade Lehner for the 21st pick in the draft, but that's me

IMO nylander, mccabe and 2018 first is what it would take

But if you look at it from a business standpoint, he's got to break into a fraternity that only has 30 (31 with Vegas) people in it. Sure, he probably knows most of them, but this is his job. To be successful as a GM requires probably more than any on this board can fathom. You can't be a beady-eyed douche drunk at the local tavern to be successful, or many on here could probably do it. Think of it this way, if you started a new job that requires you to directly compete with 30 counterparts and you have the choice to stay at your old employment for another month and a half or jump right into it (and not even get a head start as the other 30 counterparts are established) or hang around with a business, knowing you're halfway out the door and not really contributing to that organization anymore? It makes most practical sense to go to the new employment. So, in summation, no that isn't a bad look for his character or something that we (me) as Buffalo fans need to worry about because he has no where to go upwards. He's reached the pinnacle of his profession, and he would probably only move to another GM spot, which as I've mentioned don't open up that often. Hope I've answered your question
