I met Danny at the Skate Zone a yr or two after he was let go while I was talking to Sarah Baicker and he couldn't have been nicer. - nastyflyergirl
He is very friendly. I witnessed him field multiple questions from BiggE without punching him in the face. |

Bernie Parent is my all time favorite Flyer. I've met him 3 times and each time I stammer and barely know what to say, its like I'm a kid all over again. And it's not like I'm bashful, I play in a band and perform all the time.
I just love those guys. They were so down to earth and approachable. You rarely find that with pro athletes today. - BiggE
Bill, Thanks for another great blog.In fact the last two were awesome also.
I have played, been a ref and a youth coach in the area as well as worked for rinks in both Bucks and Chester Ctys. In over 35 years I bumped into a lot of the Flyers. I ran into Hexy several times when he was playing and again before he went to LA.
I have played in one alumni game, score a goal against Sudsey by beating BOTH Watsons to the puck behind the net and popping out for a wrap around. The Hound, Shultz, Saleski, Coatsey and TJ Gorence played as well.
Spent HOURS after the game BSing with TJ and Coatsey. Much beer was consumed at the same time. My son was there, abou ten, I guess. I kept messing with Coatsey, telling my son "you remember him, thats Coatsey, from Coatsey's Corner. He is a very famous TV star". I was the senior official in two other Alumni games. Worked security at three others at a total of three different venues.
THESE GUYS ARE THE NICEST GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS YOU COULD EVER HOPE TO MEET, PLAY AGAINST, REF OR JUST HANG WITH.
Bill, I envy your job. MY list goes on, but you see these guys all the time. You do such a great job and it is evident that you love what you do. I am looking forward to your stories from Russia.
I love hearing about Joe Watson. He is truly one of the best people I have met.
But my experience tells me hockey guys are just a different breed, start to finish.
Please keep up the good work. |

We were gonna bring Tangentman, but they were enforcing a sarcasm ban that evening so we left him at the bar. |

I asked Briere about Couturier and Schenn. He said they were going to be so good. He lied to me. They're both terrible |

I went to summer hockey camp at Radnor Rink... must have been '75 or '76. Saleski was our coach. He spent most of the day with us. Only have good memories of him. Just a nice down to earth guy. A lot of other Flyers players showed up during the camp. I remember being pretty impressed when both MacLeish (sp?) and Kelly showed up in Corvettes. Dave Schultz' brother Ray was also there full time. He used to tell us that Dave was a wussy. I think he got pretty sick of kids asking about his brother. Never had a bad experience with any of the old Bullies players. |
